Customs officials would not allow this product into Canada. It was returned to the seller and my card refunded. Disappointing.

So far i havent used this product by itself, ive mixed together this soil with a wal mart potting mix and an organic fertiziler of mostly guano for my girls. I will say this is a very porous mix with 1cmish chuncks of not very dense rocks. I havent read the ingredients as much as i should have before using, but when i used as the top inch layer the ladies responded very well. I still have only used it on shrub plants though so 4 stars ideal for mixing to get the right blend youre looking for but probably not something you want to use just by itself even with trees i can see the trees just falling out of small bonsai pots. If im mistaken ill update the review, i will be trying a few birch and pine it will be interesting to see how they do.

Had high hopes for this, but it's almost impossible to water. I used it for a cork-bark elm forest and tend to water using the dunking method. On the first dunk (being very gentle and slowly lowering into the water), at least 1/3 of the material simply floated out of the pot. Several of the trees floated free. I ended up with a huge mess all over the pot and had to replant some of the trees. Since most bonsai are potted in media that goes right up to the top of the pot, dunking-watering is out. On the next watering attempt, I tried watering from the top with a gentle rain-type bonsai waterer. The water simply ran off of the soil and over the sides of the pot. Not sure what this media is meant for, but it's definitely not for traditional bonsai. I'll just stick with my usual non-floating media from now on.
