Very insightful
Well written with lots of information as you work through the workbook. Information includes personal cards based on various other concepts such as numerology and astrology. Useful templates for building a tarot journal and working with the cards. I recommend using a traditional tarot deck with a good guidebook and symbols. I am using the Linestrider Tarot deck with the workbook and have found that it is a very simple design, lacking some of the imagery that other decks offer (I recommend the deck, but know there are some with more to the images). Combine the exercises with the appendices in the book and the wealth of information online, and you can easily delve into the world of tarot. This workbook is designed to help you connect with each card and really understand how it fits into your personal life allowing for more insightful readings for yourself and others.

A seminal work in the world of tarot!
I have been reading Tarot since January 1975, and in that time I have read all kinds of books to develop my abilities, and keep my skills fresh. One of the very best I have ever read is "Tarot For Yourself". By the time I read it, I'd already been reading and teaching Tarot for more than 20 years, but it was still a revelation. There are not enough stars to rate it accurately! I felt refreshed and recharged by the exercises in it, and believe that it brought my understanding to a whole new level. I immediately recommended it to my more advanced students, and gave several copies to my closest friends. In fact, my most recent post in my Tarot Blog was largely devoted to this excellent book. You can see it for yourself: [...]I recommend this book highly. I wish it had been available when I was a new reader, it would have saved me years in the process of learning my craft. Thank You Mary, for all the work and dedication you put into it!

Wonderful book!
This book is a must have for anyone who would like to truly get to know their cards and themselves. Go into this book with an open mind and be ready to just go with Mary's instructions. Sometimes it gets a little strange (lots of "imagining" with the cards and meditation) but if you work with the exercises, you'll learn so much faster. I originally got this from the library, but I had to have a physical copy to keep!Seriously - if you ever want to read tarot, you'll need this book.

It wasn't love at first sight but I am so glad I gave it another try!
Somehow I am having trouble connecting with this book... I like the author and her other books but for whatever reason this one did not take my breath away...Update: I think I did not spend enough time with this workbook to really appreciate everything it has to offer. I decided to give it another try and I am updating my review to 5 Stars. Its very informative and offers knowledge I did not find anywhere else. In case you are having trouble connecting with Tarot for YourSelf at first please give it another try. I am so glad I did.

The Book for All Levels of Tarot Reader!
This is a terrific foundation book for people learning the Tarot and wanting to learn more than you find in the little white book that accompanies most decks. Mary takes you through how to get the most from your desk from finding your birth card to various reading techniques. She is engaging to read and makes you feel welcome in your ever expanding use of Tarot. It is a great workbook to help you explore the Tarot and find your way to reading for yourself and others. I recommend this book to every person who is either just picking up a deck or looking for more exploration into Tarot.

a great primer
i have a few tarot decks that were given to me throughout my life, and only thought of them as art objects until i found this book. Greer outlines the connections to astrology, numerology, and other metaphysical practices, as well as different methods for interpreting the cards. She also walks you through different kinds of spreads, and gives very in depth information about celtic cross readings. She also has an extensive bibliography, so you can further explore your favorite lessons. What I really like best is her references to Carl Jung and the psychological archetypes, so i was able to do more in depth research on that topic.

get to really know your cards
First, I must say that the previous reviewer shuns the author's decision to include other books as recommended reading, yet I find that when an author does this, they are helping the reader truly expand on the subject, and it shows that the author is secure enough to not feel that their way is the only way. This book has been THE most helpful book for me to learn the Tarot, and about myself and friends/family. There's a bit of numerology in it, and some lessons that are fun to do, at the same time, these teach more about the cards. I would recommend this book to novices and skilled alike.

Year card calculations are incorrect
I only saw one other person noticed the miscalculations in her book for figuring out your “year card.”On page 35 she gives an example and adds up her numbers, but the total is incorrect. It should be 2035, which would equal a 10, not an 11.Thank goodness, because I was thinking I couldn’t do basic addition!I think I might look to another book, although I’m sure there is still some good information in here. But to have this incorrect information right in the beginning should really have been found before it went to press. Talk about confusing!
