Effective or Not, I'm happy with this purchase
I have no idea if this is really effective (in general - not just this particular item) but I figure, if it is - super!; if it's not, no harm done. The charge seems to last a good amount of time; I charge every week at the same time I charge my toothbrush so I can't say how long one charge lasts. Though it comes with a strong adhesive pad to stick on the wall/cabinet, I've chose not to use it and keep in on my bathroom shelf instead. It's a little larger than a cube USB charger and fits easily into my toiletry bag. I generally pack my dental items in a separate baggie in case any of my makeup leaks or explodes so I don't worry about things getting into this. Seems easy enough to clean in any event.

Perfect for my situation
I have a Sonic Essence electric toothbrush that stores in the charger cradle with the brush head up. Either a brush head protector is placed over the brush when it is not in use or a small plastic cup inverted to cover it. But I have wanted a UV light to kill germs and bacteria for a long time and decided I'd try this one. It appears to be a good choice since it can mount on a wall or mirror (double sided tape provided) at the right height and the toothbrush head will insert into it as it seats into the charger base. I like! The UV lamp itself seems strong and turns on with a press of the button, staying on for less than 10 minutes before automatically shutting off. The recharge may vary depending on what you read and I haven't got there yet. I was disappointed that only the charger cable was provided and not the power supply so I had to locate one around the house to have handy in the bathroom when charging is needed. The power cord is USB on one end and a pin connector plugs into the UV light. Charging is supposed to take 4 hours once the light starts flashing red indicating a needed charge. Once a charge is completed it turns solid green. So I keep the cable plugged into the UV light and into the power supply but I do not plug in the power supply so that the device will work. The flap door will turn off the UV light when opened. One minor problem could be cleaning the device while it is mounted on a wall or mirror since it would be easier if it stayed portable. And it is not as portable using the provided mounting tape that may be nano tape, but that is unknown. Nano tape is more desirable and more able to maintain being portable when needed or wanted. It is a little larger than expected, but not too large.

It works, but how well?
tl;dr: It's real and works, but unclear whether it's better than other sanitization methods (for now...)At first I was skeptical that this would be genuine, considering all the counterfeit UV-C products out there. I was also expecting this to have a glass bulb-based UV-C lamp based on the pictures, but when it arrived and I saw that it was an LED, I was more concerned because it's hard to tell just by looking if an LED is UV-C or not. So I decided to run an experiment to test the effectiveness. The first test I did was to see if it was actually producing UV-C light, so I started with a UV-C indicator card, which glows to indicate the presence of UV and/or UV-C. As you can see in the pictures, the UV text on the card becomes visible in sunlight, and the UV-C text glows when you position the toothbrush sanitizer so that the light that escapes without bouncing around hits it. This shows that the LED is a true UV-C LED.The next experiment was to test if the UV-C light is strong enough to sanitize or kill bacteria. To do this test, I bought a few petri dishes pre-filled with agar, and designed an experiment to compare cultures of bacteria before and after exposing the swab or toothbrush to the light.Samples:Cotton swabbed sink bacteriaBrand new tooth brush used for 30 seconds (a new toothbrush was used in a new quadrant of my mouth for each sample)Cotton swabbed mouth bacteriaTreatments:None: used as a control to get a baseline of the bacteria1x sanitization: The brush or swab was run through the sanitizer for the duration of 1 cycle. The side of the swab facing the light was marked and the swab was not rotated when sampling on the plate2x sanitization: The swab or brush was run through 2 cycles of sanitization (the 1x swab was not reused for this)3 samples with 3 treatments = 9 individual samples. The first plate was divided into 3 areas for the None treatment / control. Then 3 additional plates were divided in half to be used for the 1x and 2x treatment of each source. Once all samples were plated, the dishes were incubated upside down underneath a sous vide for 2-3 days at 90-95 degrees fahrenheit. Results:As you can see from the pictures, the control plate grew a decent amount of bacteria. The most significant results showed in the cotton swab samples of mouth bacteria. The plate of 1x and 2x treatment of the cotton swabbed mouth bacteria showed almost no growth whatsoever. The 1x and 2x treatment of cotton swabbed sink bacteria also showed a reduction in growth, but interestingly, the 2x treatment of sink bacteria shows more growth than the 1x bacteria. I suspect this is due to inconsistent amounts of liquid on each swab. More on that later. Finally, the toothbrush samples, unfortunately, show little difference after sanitization.Interpretation:From the results of the UV indicator card, and the dramatic reduction in bacteria in the cotton swab samples, I think it's reasonable to conclude that the UV-C light is doing it's job and doing *some* level of sanitization. The issue of sanitizing the brush and the inconsistency in the sink sample, however, throws a wrench into simply concluding that this works, is helpful, and worth the money. My going theory is that the UV-C light is only effective at sanitizing whatever it directly hits, and is not having an effect on sanitizing what it can't see (the space inside the brush and the other side of the cotton swab). I suspect that I picked up more liquid on my last swab of the sink, resulting in still-living bacteria migrating from the non-sanitized side of the swab to the sanitized side as I was depositing the sample on the agar. Similarly, I suspect that the bacteria that survived on the "sanitized" brush were hiding in between the bristles close to the back of the brush, and that only the bacteria on the tips of the bristles were killed. Conclusion:The LED is truly UV-C. It does kill bacteria. But due to how UV-C sanitization works, it seems unlikely that it will fully sanitize the brush, and I can't say whether this is better than any other methods of cleaning your toothbrush. Since I still have a few petri dishes left, I may design another experiment to compare different sanitization methods to see whether this brush sanitizer is comparable. But I hope for now this information is useful to those wondering if this is a genuine product.

Convenient
I secured the toothbrush holder on the wall near the outlet; it’s great being off the counter and convenient. I knew using the sticky mounting would make it challenging to use it for travel, but I figure I can always replace it on my wall with a command strip.

Sanitize with Confidence
Great product to take anywhere and sanitizer your toothbrush. I have used it everyday to make sure my favorite toothbrush which has over 5,000 filaments stays safe from germs and mold. When it (for unknown reasons) stopped charging after 7 months, the Seller was great and facilitated (free repair or replacement services) under the Warranty. All I had to do was contact SAMO LLC Lily at [email protected] or through Amazon who will direct the problem back to them.I really appreciated the seller taking care of my warranty issue without a hassle. I rate them 5+stars.

Great item - much better than other brands!
I have owned other toothbrush sanitizers, and this is the best I have owned. Holds a charge for weeks. Seems better made, sturdier than others I have owned. Stays open when you take toothbrush out to use, and you can leave it on the wall. I had another brand that you had to take it off the wall and it snapped shut sitting on the counter.Love this product ! I hope it is still available in a year or two when I need another (I expect the life of the light to be 1-2 years)

Original shipment and replacement both defective
The original shipment was defective out of the box, not charging or turning on. I returned it and was shipped a replacement. The replacement charged properly, and functioned properly for one week. Then after a week, it would not turn on. Tried charging overnight. Still not turning on. After two failed units, I will not return for a third replacement.
