Total beginner welcoming guidance
I’ve wanted to grow Bonsai trees for many years. Now that I am retired I have to time to explore so many interests. This is a perfect book for beginners. I’m in the middle of reading it and find it easy to follow and understand. I’m holding off getting my first tree until outside gardening wraps up for the year. Then I will use this book as a guide into my next gardening venture. Looking forward to having this book on hand.

Great read and practical guide for new Bonsai practitioners
I am a newbie Bonsai practitioner, although I have been an enthusiast and lover of bonsai for a very long time. This book is very good for me - there is tons of information. I would have liked to see more pictures, but really, the information is more useful to someone getting started. Pictures cannot convey all that the new practitioner needs to be successful at Bonsai.

The content is reasonable, but the effectiveness is hindered by a lack of photos.
This is a short, but nicely written, introduction to bonsai. However, throughout there are many, many locations where photos and diagrams would be very helpful in demonstrating concepts, procedures, and terminology. For example, the chapter entitled "Styling and shaping your bonsai" does not contain a single photo or diagram demonstrating the concepts discussed in the chapter (e.g. wiring, ageing, pruning).

Must read for Bonsai owners and buyers
Anyone who has ever seen the karate kid movies has a want for their own bonsai tree but after reading a beginning book I realize the care it takes to actually own one. It feels daunting. What did I like? The author really breaks down the care for owning a bonsai from the buying factors to styling your tree. The book is really informative allowing you information from seedling to pest control and infectious diseases. I really enjoyed the chapter on styling a bonsai tree, and the helpful hints to repotting one. However after reading about the abundance of care I think I’d rather buy a picture of one and just hang it on the wall. Wealth of information but you really need to be able to donate time to caring for the tree.Would I recommend or buy? If your looking to purchase a bonsai tree then this book is truly informative. I love the looks of the cute tree but really the care is tantamount to the tree health. This would be the one book I would read before buying a bonsai tree, given the cost of a bonsai this could talk you out of buying or encourage you but forewarned is fore armed.Thoughts for the author? Wow... just did not know so much work was put into owning a tree. Thanks so much for a copy. Five stars.I received a free copy to read but thoughts and opinions here are my own.

Everything you need to know about Bonsai
Quick read. Explains about the history of Bonsai, different kinds of popular bonsai trees and its anatomy with pictures. Which one suits you best and the requirements. Maintaining the Bonsai, repotting and remove from pot to every small detail you will want to know are discussed. The insects and insecticides to use, and the styles of shapes are discussed in the end. A wonderful book with tons of information.I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

This is a good book
This is a good book but not for someone new to Bonsai trees. A lot of good information, history, types, examples of older trees, and some 'how to' stuff, but not so much for someone new.

Author has love of Bonsai, but book wasn't very helpful
The author was obviously knowledgeable, experienced, and respectful in the art of Bonsai. However, as a beginner, I found the guidance in the book to be vague and broad. The focus seemed to be more waxing rhapsodic about the art of Bonsai rather than serving as a handbook of how to successfully grow Bonsai. Additionally, the book was not organized particularly well and certain aspects were repeated in several chapters. I'm sure some would enjoy this book and I found a few helpful tips, but if you are looking for a holistic handbook on caring for Bonsai, I don't feel that this book hits the mark.
