USB C to 3.5mm Jack DAC Hi-Fi Stereo USB C Aux Headphone Adapter

Good, so far. I just changed phone to a model which doesn't include a headphone jack. While I do most of my headphone music listening these days using a modded vintage 512GB iPod 5th Gen with its audiophile Wolfson DAC it's occasionally handy to be able to use my wired Sennheiser Momentum 2.0 Over Ear headphones with my phone. This has all the hallmarks of good quality manufacture. The perceived build quality is very refined and stylish. The output sound quality is good. If I anticipated using wired headphones connected to my phone on a regular basis then Ugreen also do a higher specification variant of this rated to 384 KHz / 32 bit although it is about twice the price (ASIN: B0CG5FTHT9 ) and I would probably get that one. By comparison, this one is 96 KHz / 24 bit. Nevertheless this has perfectly acceptable audio quality. I also did a test with my old Samsung flagship phone, an Exynos based Galaxy Note 9 which has a high end Wolfson DAC and still has a headphone jack. I plugged my Momentums first in to the headphone jack on the phone itself and then into this. While there was a subtle difference at best, a slightly different emphasis of vocals, everything else was absolutely fine. The level of detail was about comparable and the soundstage about the same. I didn't do an extensive comparison, but on a quick test (some Esbjörn Svensson Trio (jazz)) there was nothing that glaringly stood out as vastly inferior about this DAC to the premium one in my Galaxy Note 9. For this price tag I have zero complaints about the sound quality. There were no pops, crackles and there was no hiss. Others have remarked on the 3.5mm jack being a little loose. As a brand new item when it's reasonable to expect it is going to be as tight as it is ever likely to be, I agree it is slightly on the loose side, and it's likely to become a little more so over time. Ugreen might consider looking to a different supplier for a tighter fitting 3.5mm inline socket. Still, at this time the headphones plug into the socket and stay plugged in as long as you don't pull on it. I recommend this item, however looking at other reviews, some people have had problems with long term reliability with this item so I can only hope I got a good one. I get the feeling that Ugreen may need to address some issues of Quality Control if, going forward, they want to become as well regarded as the likes of Antec. This does however come with a 2 year warranty, in the UK anyway, which I frankly feel is more than acceptable for a product which costs as little as this.

I like to listen to music when working or gaming on my laptop using my Grado SR80e wired headphones, but onboard DACs on most laptops are notoriously bad - and mine is no exception. The fix? I have a ski helmet with wired headphones. They’ve served me well for sometime now but the lightning/3.5mm jack adapter I had has broken. The phone goes in/out of my ski jacket pocket multiple times a day so the adapter gets bent and twisted quite a bit. Anyway, this new one seems much more robust and should extend my skiing setup for a few more years. It’s pricey compared to others, but a relatively cheap item anyway, I guess it’ll be worth it. Sound quality seems better too.

I'm old school, I love my wired headphones, so I needed this jack to go between my headphones and my iPhone. I love that it plays the music clearly and cleanly. The colour blends in with my phone and won't get marked like a white one. My friend recommended UGREEN and I am very pleased that I purchased this jack. It represents good value for money and I would recommend it.

Update 5 plus years on. (what the price dropped after order it 3 days ago!!!!!! - watch out for the offers) 2 pairs of replacement pillow speakers along with 2 pairs of earbuds later (all 4 items assigned to the recycling centre) along with hundreds of accidentally yanking my phone of the bedside cabinet for it to land on the floor as I get tangled up in the audio cable I've now needed to buy some more. Happy to say that they do last, there was a slight wear at the end of the woven cable. As long as I don't loose or misplace the spare one - a twin pack will hopefully last me well into the next decade. While I’d much prefer having a headphone socket on both mobile phones that I’ve needed this adapter for (Huawei P20 Pro and the newer P40 Pro), this for me mitigates the lack of not having one on modern smart phones. If your wired ear/headphones also have a mic, or have 3 distinct metal bands plus the tip with specific apple/android functionality, for example the Bose QC 20’s for apple devices, then this adapter isn’t going to work for you. However if all you need is a standard stereo socket to listen to audiobooks, music and white noise then this is going to be ideal providing your playing device is compatible with this adapter. I only need a headphone socket for listening to audiobooks combined with white noise to fall asleep to using pillow speakers or a pair of cheap earphones taped together, as I use Bluetooth headphones during the day. I do not own either hi res audio headphones and an extensive hi res music collection, also my hearing acuity is not as good as it was 30-40 years ago to comment on the audiophile nature of the built in DAC adapter. The sound is clear and crackle free and the adapter stays put in the phone and at the headphones end even when I’ve caught the cable for my speakers and the phone has ended up on the floor after falling from the bedside cabinet in the night. Just recently bought a second one as a spare, but I’m confident this adapter will out live my current set of pillow speakers. (it did with additional items that also failed before this did)
