ColumbiaWomen's Anytime Outdoor Long Short

As an LDS woman, it is IMPOSSIBLE to find cute, comfortable knee-length shorts. IMPOSSIBLE. Welp, I found these and have now bought every single color Columbia offers in them. They are easy to dress up or down. I hike in them, go grocery shopping, out to dinner, wear them camping, etc.

With hips and thighs much bigger than, well, everyone, except perhaps speed skaters, I have always felt like a disaster below the waist. But this winter I put on an extra 30#, which equates to 8 dress sizes (I'm 5'1, and now 172#). This spring I was sad to learn that only ONE pair of my hiking and climbing pants still fit me, a pair of Columbia capri pants with a drawstring waist from an outlet mall. I didn't know much about the Columbia brand, and figured the capris had to be in some way irregular, but I kept thinking about how well that waistband tie worked - much better than buttons straining at the threads or snaps popping open at awkward times. Before ordering, I did take the trouble to measure my enormous hips (45") and match them to the measurements on the Columbia sizing chart. This was mainly a vain attempt to convince myself that I'm Not Really Size 16. (I am positively, without a shadow of a doubt, size 16.) But it was nice to see that not only does Columbia go up to a size 16, they also sell petite lengths. Athletic pants with a short inseam are totally the holy grail of clothing that can be taken off the market at any moment, so I ordered pants, these shorts and some capris. Everything was true to size and, while I can't bring myself to use the word "flattering" because I'm temporarily obese, I'm incredibly grateful that Columbia sells something that closes over my now-giant stomach, drapes appropriately over my giant butt, does not look "filled to capacity" or like a sausage casing against my enormous thighs, and has a nice little drawstring that lets me adjust so nothing gapes at the back of the waist or pops open when I sit down.

These shorts were going to be my new favorite. They are sooo comfortable and they fit great. I ordered 1 pair, fell in love, ordered a second pair and was about to order another. HOWEVER, the material only held up for 3 washings. After I wore them a couple times I noticed there was a fuzziness from the material. I didn't think much of it until I pulled them out of the washer after that third washing and they were all balled up and nappy looking. For the price and the brand name, I thought these could last much better. I was very disappointed.

I wanted a cool, comfortable modest short. These fit the bill. They are lightweight and feel breezy in 90+ degree Florida heat. They are also easy to move in for activities like hiking and climbing over boulders. I am an athletic 5’6/ 135 lb and size 4 fit me perfectly. I might buy another pair or two before the summer is over.

I really like these shorts! (They fit a bit more above my knees than they do the model's knees - probably because I have more thighs than she does. Still look good, but if you also have thighs and are worried about showing someone your knee, be warned!) I bough them because I wanted a practical pair of shorts to wear for summer on the Georgia coast. (Sort of subtropical weather - super hot, super humid, with thunderstorms almost every afternoon.) Denim is very heavy, while this fabric is very light and breathable. The repellency in the fabric is handy for rain *and* for sweat, and these will dry quickly if they get wet. And because they're longer and have the extra sun protection, I don't have to put on as much sunscreen on my legs - win in my book! They are comfortable and easy to wear for a wide array of activities. I don't look out of place taking my kid on walks, going shopping, or exercising in them.

I am a huge fan of these Bermuda shorts, wish there were more colors! The omni shield material is as close to having nothing on in this 90 degree humid whether as you can get in my opinion. I don't tolerAte the heat at all and wear another of the same material but a little shorter for my daily walks and are the only thing that makes me get out and do it on days like this. I wear a size 12 and they are a great loose enough fit....weigh 145. They have good pockets front and back for stuff you need to carry. Good length for my not so attractive knee areas, at 5'1 they come to just a bit below top of knees....perfect! They launder beautifully and even if a bit wrinkl d right out of the dryer, somehow once you have them on the wrinkles disappear! They are a little pricey for shorts but not for real comfort. I will mention however that it seems columbias sizing is not across the board as I have ordered this same size in other of their shorts and they are much smaller and had to be returned. Just pay attention to particular sizing for each style....esp the rise.

I've been wearing these for 4 years now and they are the bomb. The first thing that wears out is the inner thigh area where the fabric begins to pill, but never yet have they ripped! Beware the waist string will get wrapped around your other clothes in the wash of you don't keep them tied. Highly recommend!

Buy these in every color. They are fantastic! I love them for every occasion & have to force myself not to wear them. They are quite flattering, dry fast, great movement, & stay put. I wear a size 8-10 in American Eagle Jeans & I wear a size 10 in these shorts. They are roomy but not crazy loose. I'm a curvy, athletic build.Note: I did wear these rappelling & the backpack rubbing caused the material to ball up a bit on the upper bum/lower back area.

These shorts are super comfy , lightweight and easy care. They are wonderful for travel and everyday wear. I use them around home, shopping, to hike or bike, and to travel. Anytime wear is an apt description. I now own them in 4 colors including duplicates of some, and have one more on order. I recognized another tour passenger wearing the same shorts, and we both agreed that they are super for travel as they take little space, are very lightweight, wash easily, dry quickly, etc. She also has them in several colors. The tie belt makes the size adjustable, but does make the front less smooth. I flip the bow to the inside of the shorts when not tucking in my top. I am short, so on me the fit is just over the knee.

Fabric is good quality but these shorts are extremely low riding on hips. Not complimentary for my shape and age ( 65). Although I am slim, the style was too youthful for my taste. The fit was uncomfortable. I returned them.

These are very comfortable shorts! Great length (hits just above my knees) and the fabric is quite light and breathable. They do stretch out just a little bit throughout the day, but the drawstring at the waist helps with that issue.I got the size 6 and am 5'7 and 133 lbs

Love these shorts. Good fit, comfortable. The fabric is lightweight but sturdy and has just the right amount of stretch that they are a relaxed fit but they don't get baggy after wearing them 1-2x before washing like so many other shorts do. I recommend them.
