Marigold

This is one of my all time favorite movies and soundtracks. The first time I saw it was late one night when nothing else was on worth watching. It took hold of me and would not let go. The movie is funny, poignant and romantic. Of course there are things that happen in the movie that would probably ever really ever happen in "arranged" situations, but the sheer romantic fantasy of this film is worth seeing over and over again.Every woman who comes to my house HAS to see it and when they do, they always go home and either download the music or purchase the movie. Salman Kahn is a bit of a bad boy so I would not recommend reading about him and some of the things he's done (it might take away from his persona), but in this movie he is so cute and adorable you can't help but swoon.Marigold (Ali) is a B-grade actress who has been tricked into going to India to star in a movie only to find that the funds have dried up and the backers are in jail or on the run. Stranded, she finds that she has been fired from her American film(s) and she has to get back home. Serendipitously she finds herself in the midst of a Bolly production and has to learn to sing and dance which after a time she does with aplomb.There is a poignant comedy of misunderstandings (can that even happen?) when Marigold who has fallen in love with Prem finds out he is engaged (a family arrangement). The unrealistic part is meeting Prem's (Khan) parents and they "sort of" accept her. Knowing the culture the way I have come to understand it (does that make sense?) I know that the men can do no wrong so they MIGHT entertain such a union in thought anyway, but the level of contemporary liberties taken by the women is unrealistic.There are so many secondary characters that you will adore and the mixture of tradition and modern times and customs will have you in stitches. It has many funny and memorable lines, like when Marigold (Ali) asks the cab driver if he knows where a certain place is and he says. "Bibil be knowing where EVERYTHING is however directions would be helpful," Another line in the movie after Marigold is stressing over whether she can remember all the words and steps to a particular number...."What if I can't remember the steps?"and he says"Then just remember how much I love you."My friend and I melted all over my den floor.In any case, she gets her man, or he gets his girl and everyone lives song-fully happy ever after.Here is a movie you can enjoy without all the visual sexual contact and conduct and still have a sense of super romance and a happy ending. I LOVE THIS MOVIE and I am sorry I did not buy more copies before Blockbuster went out of business.Two of my friends watched it with me and by the end we were rewinding so we could sing the songs and TRY and do the dances. It is that much fun.You will love the music and dance sequences especially with its mix of hip-hop and traditional East Indian moves. My favorite song is THAT' S LOVE, which I am proud to say I have learned the first five words in Hindi thank you very much (smile)So the bad reviews on this movie be darn it has a cult following and I highly recommend it if you're sad and need cheering up or you just want to have a fun afternoon with the girls

I ABSOLUTELY LOVED THIS MOVIE. IT TAKES MUCH TO IMPRESS ME ABOUT MOVIES TODAY. I THINK THE WRITER IS WONDERFUL. THE MOVIE WAS ATTENTION KEEPER, I CAN'T TAKE MY EYES OFF OF IT, I WANTED TO SEE WANT HAPPENS NEXT. THE MOVIE DID NOT GET THE RIGHT ADVERTISEMENT. I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW IT EXISTED UNTIL THREE WEEKS AGO. I WATCH IT PRACTICALLY EVERYDAY. I CAN'T GET ENOUGH OF IT. ALI WAS EXCEPTION AND SALMAN KHAN WAS BREATH-TAKING. HE IS VERY CHARMING AND IS A MAN OF MANY TALENTS. I KNOW IF I WAS AN ACTRESS, I WOULD WANT TO STAR WITH HIM. AS I SAID, I COULD HARDLY TAKE MY EYES AWAY FROM THIS MOVIE. I AM A FAN OF BOLLYWOOD MOVIES NOW. IT IS HARD TO KEEP MY ATTENTION WHEN WATCHING TV. I AM A BORN-AGAIN CHRISTIAN AND LOVED THE FACT THAT IT WAS CLEAN AND WITHOUT ALL THAT CURSING, KISSING AND LOVE MAKING. BE MORE DISCREET AND MORAL. I THINK THAT IS WHY THERE IS SO MUCH DIVORCES IN THE ACTORS AND ACTRESS'S LIVES. IF I HAD TO PICK ONE THING THAT DID NOT IMPRESS IS AT THE TIME ALI LARTER USED THE LORDS NAME IN VAIN. THE GD WORDS COULD HAVE BEEN LEFT OUT, GHEE EVEN DAMN WOULD HAVE BEEN EXCEPTABLE. I REALLY LOVED THE MOVIE, MEANING NOT TO REPEAT MYSELF, BUT THERE SHOULD BE MORE MOVIES WITH BOLLYWOOD ONLY IN ENGLISH OR SUBTITLES EVEN WOULD BE GREAT! I LOVE YOU WILLARD CARROLL, I AM A FAN AND HOPE YOU CONTINUE TO WRITE GOOD MOVIES, THERE IS JUST ONE THING, I ENJOY A GREAT THRILLER IF IT IS NOT GRUSOME AND I DO NOT ENJOY A SICK, DEMENTED MOVIE UNLESS, IT IS BASED ON A TRUE MOVIE AND DOESN'T EXACTLY SHOW ALL THE GRUSOME STUFF. JUST A PERSONAL REQUEST WHICH MAY NOT EVEN MATTER, BUT THERE ARE A LOT OF PEOPLE WHO FEEL THE SAME WAY THAT I FEEL. PS I ABSOULETY LOVE SALMAN KHAN. HE HAS SPECIAL QUALITIES THAT ARE WITHIN HIM. I CAN FEEL IT, HE IS AWESOME, YOU COULD NOT HAVE PICK ANYONE MORE SPECIAL TO PLAY IN THIS MOVIE I LOVED THE WAY HE DANCED. WHO DID HE STUDY UNDER OR IS HE BLESSED. IT IS HARD FOR ME TO DETERMINE THAT HE IS NOT A PRINCE AND ONLY PLAYING A PART IN A MOVIE. ALI WAS SEXY AND A WONDERFUL DANCER ALSO AND PLAYED A GREAT PART, ALSO. KEEP UP THE GREAT WORK! LOVE YA

One of the best movies I have ever seen!Ali larter is perfect and I love the chemistry of the two main characters. The story is beautifulI am so happy I have this dvd now in my collection

C'est un bon film comme bollywood sait le faire.

ich habe es in dubai im kino gesehen mit high-tech-anlage vom feinsten, natürlich nicht alleine. deswegen mußte ich diesen film auch haben. es werden erinnerungen wach und auch wenn er gelegentlich etwas kitschig erscheint, so gefällt er mir doch einfach und berührt mich nachhaltig.beiden schauspielern habe ich ihre rolle "abgekauft".
