Black Diamond Orbit Lantern

Very bright light given the size- surprisingly on both ends, versatile, collapsible. Wish it came with a rechargeable battery

Wow. I have two previous generations of the Orbit lantern and this one is brighter than my original Black Diamond Apollo lantern. As with all the other Orbits, a great little design that fits in the hand or pocket, easy to set down or hang, and switches to a flashlight. I'll know at the end of the summer what the battery consumption looks like; I've had better luck on previous models using lithium batteries rather than the rechargeable alkaline I'd prefer to use. The rechargeable batteries just haven't been reliable (perhaps the voltage is a hair too low?). I'm trying the  AmazonBasics AAA High-Capacity Rechargeable Batteries (8-Pack) Pre-charged  on this light and see if that works.---- Update 2/2017The Amazon Basics High Capacity Rechargeable batteries did the trick in both this and the previous generation of Orbit lanterns. They still run longer on the Lithium batteries, but now I have an option for longer treks where I'd rather carry a charger than lots of batteries. If there is any feature that would be a bonus on these lanterns, it would be a battery charge indicator. :)

A complete loop option at the top would be nice so I can hang it on my bag pack! That'll add one more star to this little bright lantern! Great for reading. Not bright enough for a large area, but enough for a small tent etc.

Very impressed with the innovative design! Flashlight is bright enough as well as lantern. I read some reviews where the older model Orbit with less output made for a poor light, not the case for this one. It's not a 1000 lumen Streamlight if that's what your looking for. That's not it's purpose. It provides enough light for you to navigate and hunker down with the lantern mode.Nice hook design for hanging from anything. Love the solid built in stand as well. I like that it dims and especially collapses. I think it's ideal for any backpack or emergency power outage situation in my opinion. I don't know about the durability, time will tell, but the design of this product is brilliant!

The Orbit lantern is great when it works. But encouraging it to properly function eliminates the fun and satisfaction one should be able to gather from regularly using it. I find myself tapping it half the time in order to keep the light bulb from either flickering or totally extinguishing. It feels cheap too, like one of those children's lanterns I could have purchased from the dollar store. It's only redeeming value lies in the fact that the light output is infinitely variable from a preprogrammed low to a preprogrammed high. Compared to the Black Diamond headlamps I have purchased in the past, this thing is an utter disappointment. I'm shocked by the absence of quality in this product, and my faithfulness in BD lighting products has been indefinitely tarnished. It's a shame.

This lantern is compact and very light and is great for a camp light, inside a tent or outside.

This lantern/flashlight is super handy on any camping/backpacking trip. It's light to carry, and perfect for hanging in a tent at night.

Nice small portable battery powered light

This is a great little lantern. I bought it as I already had its bigger version the Voyager. I used them both recently when on camping trips totalling 11 nights. They have a warm type of light that I've never seen with another LED lantern. I hang the Voyager at the top of the tent and use the Orbit in the sleeping pod. It is more than adequate for reading and dressing etc.They seem to be very easy on batteries. I haven't needed to change batteries yet and they've both been used quite a bit.The sturdy metal hook closures on the top are brilliant. During very windy conditions the lanterns could get knocked off the little plastic hooks in the tent. You can use the lanterns own closures to attatch directly to the tent and will be totally secure.The on/off switch is covered when lantern is in closed position so I've never had to worry that they'll get accidentally turned on when packed. (Which is a very annoying thing to happen)The Orbit is really small, sturdy, light weight and bright. It's dimming feature is great too, when using at a table chatting or whatever and don't want maximum light.I would highly recommend this product.When mine was delivered the packaging was badly damaged. It was crushed and torn(closed back up with packaging tape). It also looked like it had spent some time in the wet. It's a testament to the quality of this little lantern that it was totally undamaged.

A great piece of kit. I purchased this for motorcycle touring for its size and weight. Emits a load of light and dims too! Really good size, clips to hang from a tree or inside a tent and both lamps can be used together or individually. Excellent!!!

Is ok

Soo süß! Ganz klein daher passt in jede auch kleine Tasche! Leuchtet schön hell. Demmbar daher als Nachtlicht zur Orientierung auch geeignet. Der Preis ist vielleicht ein wenig überteuert.... Aber ich persönlich würde diese Lampe wieder kaufen!

Ich hatte schon eine Stirnlampe von Black Diamond und hab mich deshalb für diese Lampe für Camping, Trekking und Garten entschieden.Das Licht ist angenehm Warm für eine LED und sehr hell. Dadurch dass man die Lampe zusammen schieben kann, ist das Packmaß sehr klein.Super verarbeitung, leicht, klein, praktischer Bügel, tolle Lampe auf der Unterseite und top Akkulaufzeit.Kann ich nur empfehlen!
