Not 1/2 inch
Valve is not true 1/2. The inner dimension of the valve where the fluid passes thru is 3/16 to maybe 1/4 of an inch. It will take several minutes to fill a water pail with this valve.

Flawed
The silicone gasket compresses through the hole. It is not adequate.

This product sucks
This product sucks. I have owned it for about 5 months now and it constanly leaks. We have attempted to adjust the tightness of the seal many times. No matter it just continues to leak water around the seal.

Works perfectly!
This valve was exactly what we were looking for. Considering it was far cheaper than other options, we had our doubts when purchasing it... But it works perfectly. With a nearly full 75gal rain barrel, the flow out of this valve is similar to opening a normal water spigot connected to city water.Which ever way you choose to thread the outer brass insert, I would recommend using a string with a weight tied to one end. This will allow you to drop the weight through the hole, and the nut can then be screwed down (from inside or outside). If you have access to the inside of the barrel, it looks better to have the nut tightened down from the inside (the valve will be more flush to your barrel).Be sure to use the included Teflon tape, and tighten snugly, or the valve will leak.

Needs washers behind gaskets!
The rubber gaskets pop off the fitting when the pipe is barely tightened allowing leakage. If these included a 1.5” washer that would allow for the gasket to stay on the fitting without twisting, then this would have been a ridiculously easy set up. Would have happily paid more if it came with washers!Wound up making a washer out of the lid of a 5 gallon bucket and using silicon to seal it all together.

Easy to install and use
I bought one of these initially to see if I liked it with my rain barrel project and ordered a second the next week along an Oaty Mystic diverter.Install was easy enough if you follow the instructions, I used a hole saw attachment to drill the slightly larger hole in the barrel. It did take me a couple minutes to line up the internal part and get it to come of the bottom of the barrel. But it was easier than I thought it would be given I was just using my fingers. I also had a slight leak near the outside plastic washer but tightening it a bit more fixed the problem.I can hook a garden hose up to it, but don't have enough pressure really to make it worthwhile. We mainly use it to fill the watering can or something similar. Overall it does exactly what I expected it to.

For water storage in a trash bin
I've wanted to store rain water for my humidifiers and finally decided to use a trash bin. I figure if it can handle being whipped around by the arm on the trash truck then it can hold water. I've had it full twice with the valve attached and there is no leakage. It's a 65 gallon trash bin. I did use a lot of pipe joint compound on it. When I installed it I way over tightened it and crushed out the gaskets but when I loosened it they went back to shape and I put it back together with much less tightening and it looked fine and didn't leak. The bottom part of the trash bin was fairly smooth where I attached it.

Simple to install but not
I bought this valve to repair the plastic one that broke off my rain barrel. My initial installation leaked. I noticed both seals had deformed and were not sitting flat between the wall of the barrel and fixture. It appears I had over tightened the nut and the extra pressure was pinching the seals. I made an additional seal from some foam sheets I had saved from another project and used a long handled socket wrench to keep the mounting from turning inside the barrel. I didn’t tighten it quite as much as my first try and the original seals kept their shape and stayed flat to the side of the barrel. Last night it rained and filled my rain barrel but after checking this morning, no leaks. The extra seal made better contact to the barrel and the seals included with the valve maintained their shape and transferred equal pressure around the fixture. It doesn’t look great but it working.

Perfect! Just don’t over tighten.
Bought two for rain barrels, went in easy. Notes: I drilled a 1” hole and Used a small file to enlarge it a bit. That worked great. I was able to tighten it by hand, and it worked great. When I used a wrench after however I over-tightened it and the washer popped up and out and it started to leak. I undid it and then tightened again by hand and it worked fine. I thought this might help others.

Leak-free as long as they are installed properly
I used a 1" flat wood drill bit to make the hole on my typical blue barrel. My first attempt leaked. Then I cut out a plastic washer and placed it between the rubber washer and the metal washer to prevent the rubber washer from twisting while tightening. Also, because the barrel is curved, I needed 5 layers of plumbing tape and a bead of silicone sealant to make a tighter connection. When completely filled to the top, the water flow is great. We have filled and emptied the barrel 3 times already this summer and it has been great.

My Two Cents...
This spigot kit is brilliant. Having previously bought just the piece with the valve and having dealt with it leaking through the hole I had to drill, upgrading to this product was beautiful. I had to drill out the hole to fit the brass adapter that actually fits into the barrel, but the spigot turns into that piece beautifully! I now have an extra valve and wish I could find that brass adapter. It's a great product for those looking to transform a barrel into a rain barrel!

Not 1/2" FLOW!
This is a well made unit BUT its not a true 1/2" flow. The hole in the centre where the actual ball valve is only measures just over a 1/4" which is very restrictive. I am not sure in the actual flow rating but there is no way that you are pulling/pushing 4gpm through that tiny hole. Most likely not useable for an outdoor shower that requires a pump and high GPM flow rating.

Great spigot
We had to caulk around the outside in inside because it was a bit bigger than the original but it flows much faster and you can’t over turn it or over tighten which can be a problem with the stock spigot. Very satisfied with this product and was quick shipping
