Great for couples, minimal layering needed, fantastic versatility!
My wife and I recently got back into camping in the Colorado wilderness. It can be 90 in the city but once you get into the mountains, you've got to be prepared. We like to snuggle so instead of getting two bags and worrying about compatitibilty, I went with a double. We've used it twice now and we're so happy with our decision. There are a few cons but definitely not enough to warrant a star's deduction. Here are my thoughts: PROS - Assuming you have someone in the bag with you, DO NOT LAYER UP too much. We were in t-shirts and shorts and we were VERY warm in the Colorado mountains where it was in the low 40s. We even unzipped the sides to put a leg out at one point! Bottom line is that unless you're literally in below-30 temps, you probably don't need to stack up the layers. A base layer, something on your ears/head, and some warm socks is probably all you'll need if the temps start to drop. - Outer layer is sturdy and soft. - Inner lining is VERY soft and cozy. I expected something a bit less comfortable if I'm being honest so it was a very pleasant surprise to find such a lush inner lining. - Zippers are great! While we didn't separate it entirely, I did notice that both sides zipped independently and each had a lined velcro strap to cover the zippers so the cold metal won't touch your skin. I was hot one morning and was able to unzip my side while my wife stayed bundled up. Speaking of which, there is also a cinch around the top of the bag to create a mummy-style enclosure as seen in the picture. That little cubbie is also good for stuff pillows to keep them in place. - Lots of straps on the stuff sack; easily carried like a backpack if need be! CONS - Get ready for a workout if you're using the stuff sack it came with. Unless you have a magic folding/rolling gift, you'll probably want an extra set of hands to get the first quarter of the bag in the sack. After that it's just a matter of stuffing all the way down to the bottom of the sack...which takes some effort and time. We are able to get first half of the bag in the stuff sack pretty easily after a few practice runs but fully utilizing the full volume of the bag is difficult. I have found, however, that after cinching the bag closed, the bag molds itself to take up the entire sack so it all works out in the end. If you want an easier time, you'll probably have to buy a bigger stuff sack but... - The stuff sack is already pretty big and heavy. It has plenty of straps for carrying/tying down but it definitely isn't suitable for more than a very light hike if any. That about covers my thoughts. If anything glaring comes about, I'll update but this is a fantastic double sleeping bag, especially for those of you who like snuggling up.

Great quality, warm bag. Better have lots of room!
Definitely have to take this bag for what it is. It is a very warm, amazingly plush sleeping bag that offers a huge margin of comfort. The size is very generous and I believe two large people could comfortably use this bag without complaint. This is NOT a small bag, however. I purchased it to use on car camping/hunting camp trips where I do not have to limit the size of my gear. The sewing looks stout and have had zero issues with the zippers. I've used this bag on some pretty cold trips (snow, rain, etc) and have yet to be too cold. Have also awoken to the outside of the bag having become very wet and yet we were toasty and dry inside. Didn't even know the outside of the bag was wet until I woke up. I'm a very cold sleeper and so the warmth of the bag was a pleasant surprise to me. I have had a few nights where I had to unzip the bag because it was so warm. I have no complaint with that. I bought the liner for this, just for ease of cleaning and I would recommend the liner because washing this beast requires a large capacity washer. The less often you have to wash it, the better. I'm still amazed that I was able to get such a high quality bag at this price. Overall, I'm very happy with the bag and would recommend it with few complaints. That being said, here are my minor complaints: -The bag is HUGE! Better hope to have lots of room in your car for it. -The storage bag that comes with it is really just too small. It takes a monumental effort to get the bag back in and most of the time I just pack the bag into a giant trash bag. You will get a workout trying to use the storage bag it comes with. -Again, requires large capacity washer to clean. Buy the liner, too!

High quality, toasty, perfect car camping sleeping bag!!
We had a camping trip in the Rocky Mountain National Park coming up in the fall, temperatures were supposed to be in the low 30s, or even upper 20s. This was one the first bags we saw when looking around, and we just couldn't stop thinking about it! It looked so roomy, so comfy, so warm, and the idea of a double sleeping bag was very appealing, specially in cold weather. So we went for it! Well, since I'm writing this review, you can assume we not only survived, but it was a great choice! Here are our pros and cons from our experience in Colorado: PROS: 1. High quality: right when you take it out of the box you know it's a good product. The inside feels like flannel. Zippers and seams look strong! 2. Roomy: this thing is huge, I'm 6 feet tall, and both my wife and I could fit inside with plenty of room for another small person. 3. Comfy: I'm just going to say that there is a very thin line between sleeping in your bed and inside this sleeping bag, very very fluffy. The inside is similar to flannel, so it's not too cold when you get in. 4. Warm: I gotta say, before seeing this bag, my wife was skeptical we wouldn't be cold at night, but our nights were perfect, we couldn't wait to get to bed. We both slept with very light clothes and bare foot. Temperatures were in the low 30s every night. 5. Details: some details are worth mentioning... there are zippers all around, so if someone is too warm at night, you can open the sides to increase ventilation. There is a mummy hoodie that helps close down if you're still not warm enough. There are some velcros to prevent you touching the zippers or opening them accidentally. CONS: There are no cons!!! I would say there is actually one side effect to so many pros... 1. Size: well, as you'd expect, it's very bulky and heavy! But hey, how would it not be, right? Some reviews talk about being difficult to put it back in the stuffing bag, but we did not have a problem at all! Fold in the middle, stuff it all the way to the end, and then stuff stuff stuff the rest! It really (to our surprise) wasn't as bad as we thought. Bottom line is, amazing bag!! You won't be disappointed. Just don't expect to go hiking a 10 mile trail with it! :)

Machine washing or dry cleaning voids warranty!
We bought this sleeping bag for when we tent camp on the cold, damp Oregon coast. I did a lot of research before purchasing it, and based my decision on the fact that it seemed to be one of the largest and warmest bags that I could find. I’ve listed the positive features, as well as the negatives, based on our experiences with it. Features/Pros - Nice width to comfortably sleep my hubby and me (I’m 5’3, 118 pounds, and hubby is 6’0, 200 pounds). However, I don’t think it would be comfortable if we added a small child, as the description states. It may also be too crowded for 2 larger adults. - Comfy cotton flannel lining and thick padding makes it snuggly warm. - Drawstring mummy style hood keeps out the draft. - Two-way zippers on both sides, so my hubby and I could each adjust our own sides to our liking. There’s also a third zipper across the bottom. Zippers work smoothly and we never had problems with snags. - Exterior seems to be a really durable nylon so I don’t think we’ll have any problems with tears. - Internal storage pocket with Velcro closure on one side for storing small valuables (keys, phone, wallet). - 2 loops on the bottom for hanging it to air dry or ventilate. Cons - Slick exterior made us slide around a bit when we tried to roll over. - Zippers on the sides, although smooth, don’t lock into place (like blue jeans), so I’d get the zipper in just the right spot so I wasn’t too warm or too cold, and before I knew it the thing had unzipped itself further. - There are zippers on 3 sides, so the top and bottom can completely separate, yet you can’t make two sleeping bags out of the separated pieces (as you can with other bags). The company says that you can zip two separate sleeping bags together to make one massive bag (doesn’t sound overly practical, if you ask me). - As so many other reviewers have mentioned, it takes a lot of sweat to get the sleeping bag into or out of its sack. I’m a 118 pound grandma and I was able to re-stuff the bag after watching the instructional video, but I needed a shower after the workout I got doing it. - Machine washing/drying or dry cleaning will void the warranty, so you can only “spot clean” and then lay the bag in the sun to naturally disinfect and freshen. Another issue for some, although I won’t label it as a “con”, is its massive weight and size. It weighs about 20 pounds, and is larger and heavier when stuffed in its sack than our 8-person tent packed in its bag! We always tent camp where we can pull our car up to our spot, so this isn’t a problem for us, but it’s definitely not something you’d want to take backpacking. Also note that the company says that it’s best not to store the sleeping bag long-term in its compressed sack, because this may shorten its life. So, I’m wondering why they provide a bag that requires so much compression if it’s not good for the sleeping bag. Despite the negatives I mentioned, it’s a decent quality bag, and we’re reasonably happy with our purchase. It’s super warm and comfortable, and it appears to be durable enough to last quite a while.

Saved the weekend!
Backstory: my wife is pregnant with our 2nd and wanted to go camping with our 2 year old daughter before we were tied down with a second for a while. I made reservations for the weekend and ordered up this bag along with a Eureka Children's Sleeping Bag for my daughter. This happened late on Wednesday, we just squeaked in before the deadline on the Friday guaranteed delivery date with prime. I should also mention that the wife wasn't too happy with what this bag cost, but that wouldn't last long. This bag was shipped Fedex, the other one was UPS. This one arrived mid-day on Friday, but by the time we had to leave town, my daughter's bag hadn't been delivered yet (thanks UPS!). Grabbed the contingency plan for the kid, a 45 degree adult sized bag, and hit the road. Fast forward about 6 hours, it was a chilly evening and my daughter, who's never camped before, woke up not happy. After a few minutes of trying to console her I asked if she wanted to come in our bag. She responded yes, I moved her in between us, and that was about that. Up until then I slept like a rock, after she joined us it wasn't quite as nice (she decided a 45 degree angle was the right orientation for the night) but all 3 of us slept fairly well until morning with a decent amount of room to go around. If my wife and I had individual bags I don't expect it would have gone as smoothly. Needless to say that made up for spending a bit more than she would have liked. From a more objective standpoint, the bag and it's stuff sack are enormous. It dwarfed the duffel that holds my Kelty Green River 4 tent. Luckily we camped out of a Ford Econoline van so it wasn't an issue. I was a bit worried that the 0 degree rating would make it uncomfortably warm, but I slept pretty well in ~40 degree weather. Never too hot and if I was, easy enough to open the side zipper from the bottom or top and let in some air. The construction is good, draft tubes in all the right places, the pillows stayed where they should have, and the lining is quite comfortable. I was expecting a bit softer of a flannel finish, this may change over time but as new it's a fairly smooth finish, more similar to the normal synthetic finish of a sleeping bag. We were on two ALPS Mountaineering Lightweight Series Self-Inflating Air Pad side by side and between that and the insulation in the bottom of the bag, the padding was just fine. It's also a well thought out bag. When we packed up I unzipped the 2 halves and shook them out, then hung them over the railing when I got home to air out. Putting it back together was a cinch, 3 zippers and about 30 seconds and it was ready. I agree with one of the other reviewers, stuff the sack starting with the bottom or top (don't try to roll it) and just keep smooshing it in, it'll fit. When packing it up at home I inadvertently put the bottom and top in before stuffing the middle part, made it much harder, so make sure to go from one end to the other to save the headache. The compression straps help get it to a very slightly more manageable size, but let's be honest, this isn't going to be carried on your back or anything, so who cares about the extra 2 inches or so of size. All things considered, awesome car camping sleeping bag. If you're buying this thing you know what you're getting, not some super sleek lightweight high tech bag, but a beast of bed that you can comfortably splay out in and get cozy. For that purpose it hits the mark dead on and I can highly recommend this to anyone.

I love this sleeping bag. (Updating for over 10 years of performance!)
Updated review in May of 2021 after owning for over 10 years! (Purchased March 2011) I stand behind my original review, and can even expand it further. I've had this bag out solo, doubled up with the wife, and in temps all the way down to -16F on an unexpected, freak event of a night. This bag has paid for itself so many times over I've lost count. It's still going to be too much when the lows are probably 45F or better, but hey, you can just unzip the top from the bottom and use one side as a blanket instead! I also recently picked up the Teton Sports Cascade double sleeping bag, and didn't even have to think twice. Have used that one this spring and plan on using for summer over dragging bed sheets and a well used blanket around. May have to zip the top off and use as just a blanket, but we'll see. Point being that be cause of the Mammoth bag, and a couple other Teton Sports products, I didn't hesitate to buy another one of their products sight unseen. Didn't feel I needed to based on experience with their products, their outstanding customer care, and their warranty to back it all up. Great gear that doesn't have to break the bank for some big directional name being put on it. Looking forward to the next 10 years with this bag, and the other gear I have from Teton Sports! -------------------------------------- Original review below: -------------------------------------- Spacious, yet still warm for one. With two, it's even better. When it comes to camping, one thing you can't skimp on is your sleeping bag. It needs to be comfortable so you can get some good sleep. It also needs to be the right specs for the weather you'll be in. I spent several nights in this bag recently, with half at or just below the freezing mark while the others were a little warmer. I think the warmest night was mid 40's, and to be honest, it got a tad warm. That wasn't a big deal though, and to be expected with a 0-degree rated bag. I will say I was by myself on this excursion, and slightly concerned beforehand that with it being a double bag it may not be warm enough. On the cold nights, I was very warm. Not one problem at all with it being so big. This bag fit on top of my queen mattress just right, and was never an issue. I crawled in, and within a few short minutes it was warmed up like a champ. I had a nice blanket between the bag and the air mattress, which helped insulate the bag from the air of the mattress. This bag would have been good down to lower temperatures easily. I would estimate 15 degrees, maybe 10, based on the warmth provided in the upper 20's. When the temperature at night was in the mid 40's, it got a hair warm. That's OK, I like it that way, but this would be too much bag for much more. For light winter, spring or fall (when the temps are chilly at night), this bag is awesome. For summer, you will roast. The quality is very, very good. To be honest, this bag exceeded my expectations. If only they made a similarly sized bag that was a little lighter weight for summer, I'd be a happy camper. If you take care of this bag, it will certainly last you a long time. Store it right, clean it right, and you will be very satisfied.

Comfortable and warm!
I absolutely love this sleeping bag! We used this bag for a week when camping at Glacier National Park. The temperature varied at night, anywhere from 38 degrees at the lowest to 55 degrees the warmest night. We also bought the Teton liner for this bag thinking that we may need it for colder nights. We did not use the liner during the colder nights. The warm flannel lined sleeping bag kept us nice and toasty! When the nights were warmer we unzipped the sides and bottom to allow for more air flow and it kept the temperature perfect. At one point, my hot blooded husband used only the liner to cover up with and slept comfortably that way too. My husband is well over 6ft and I'm 5'7". We had plenty of room to move around. I never felt constricted. It has a nice flannel linning which makes it very soft. The baffles around the head and shoulders would keep out drafts in colder weather. The padding was excellent and we never needed to use the air mattress. The sack which holds the sleeping bag is a truly a "stuff" sack. You won't get the bag into the stuff sack by rolling it up. I learned this the hard way.You have to shove and stuff the bag into the stuff sack. I love it! It's so easy to do. A bag this size can be very difficult for one person to put away, but I had no problem. There is a great tutorial video on the Teton website showing how to do this. There are also compression straps that help make it a little smaller. However, this is decent sized bag even once it's compressed. It would not be possible to back pack with this. I also like the fact this can be unzipped into 2 seperate pieces. This makes fitting them into a washing machine so much easier. We love this sleeping bag and would highly recommend it!!

Cozy, Comfortable, and AWESOME!!!
I recently used this sleeping bag on a three day camping trip with my wife for our first anniversary. When we first got it I opened it at the house and was thrilled with the size! It is huge!!! We threw it on our queen size bed to check out the dimensions. It's about as wide as a queen size bed and a little bit longer than one. It's got a lot of room inside and plenty of space for people over six foot! The built in pillow is a great feature! It's padded pretty nicely but when we slept we also used a small pillow. There are two drawstrings around the opening so that you can close it tight for those especially cold nights. We had to do that a few times and it made a big difference in keeping the cold out and the heat in. The inside of the sleeping bag is so soft and extremely comfortable! It's a cotton flannel interior with a ton of padding so it's soft to sleep on and a fantastic insulator. The heat from your body will warm up the inside in a matter of minutes! The exterior is a pretty solid material so you don't have to worry about it ripping on you. I was very impressed with it as I compared it to my old sleeping bag which had a very thin outer layer. This sleeping bag has two zippers-one on each side. I love that because you or your partner can exit without disturbing the other. It also helps if you get too hot inside because you can unzip both sides and fold the top back however far you'd like. We camped in the Monarch Mountains in Montana and it got down to about twenty degrees at night. We stayed very warm inside and it even got a little too warm at times. This bag is truly designed for 0 degree weather! When it came time to put it away my wife and I had no trouble getting it back into its compression sack. With two people it isn't difficult but one person alone will have a harder time. Just fold it in half and slowly but tightly roll it from end to end. It's a snug fit but goes in fine that way. I would recommend this sleeping bag to anyone that does cold weather camping and is looking for a bag large enough for two people. This may be too large for one person alone unless you're hoping for a lot of extra room. All in all-GREAT PRODUCT!!!

Pueden ver tutoriales si en youtube buscan "How to Stuff the Mammoth Sleeping Bag into its Stuff Sack".

Great Sleeping Bag, very warm and comfy
Never be cold while camping again, this is seriously warm, very large though but if your car camping it's way worth it and it's very easy to get in it's sack, don't listen to the nay-sayers on this, their problem is they're trying to roll it up again but if you just stuff it in as your meant to, it goes in with ease, cheers :)
