Q: Do I need to wash these before using?

You should wash any glass jars that you buy before using. Also, you should make sure that they are very dry before using the lids also. I wash in the dish washer on top shelf. The lids I was by hand and dry over night. Live the jars overnight or if you are using for extracts put them in a tray and leave in the oven at 250 for 30 minuets and that sterilizes them. the lids do not go into the oven just over night will work. should be fine. they have little gaskets in the cap to seal tight. we use it for alcohol-based cat medication and it hasn't eaten through the gasket.
