This is an excellent short introduction to the life of Michelangelo, with a very good short selection of letters and poems that give you a flavour of Michelangelo's thoughts, relationships with others, and his inner soul and feelings. This is a great introduction to a great artist for those who want to know something about the inner life of the artist and how he interacted with other people, including his own family, popes, kings, and friends.

A slim volume to keep by one. Michelangelo's poetry has of late been reappraised and, to me, rightfully elevated. Dante's spirit abounds. Michael Bull, a biographer of Michelangelo, writes a strong introduction for this edition.

A short but good introduction to the life of a great genius to be sure.
