Clapper The Original Home Automation Sound Activated Device, On/Off Light Switch, Clap Detection, As Seen On TV

I know this is an older invention but it works great! No more having to contort my arm around the lamp shade- so easy to set up and use!

Way cool, I remember adds for this year's ago, never thought I would have one. There are two separate channels for two separate plugs. Two claps for one amd three for the other. Very nice when you cannot get to the cord to turn off a floor lamp. One little problem is that whenever there is a series of two sounds there is a chance the unit will turn on or off. For example i had it on and my kid closed a two door cabinet in the kitchen first one then the other and the light turned off... Nothing major though. The hardiness far outweighs that problem.

This product is terrible and I returned it. It is very difficult to use, which surprised me. You need to clap at a certain pace. If the clapper picks up on a background noise while you are clapping, it will "lock you out" and you need to wait until the sensor lights at the bottom turn off so you can try again... Basically, it listens for your clap and if it hears something else (i.e. a songbird, the air conditioner, your dog walking across the floor), it will lock you out for a few seconds and you'll have to try again. I tried this on all four settings (high sensitivity, low sensitivity, using the 2 clap outlet, and using the 3 clap outlet). I tried for over an hour to reliably turn a light on and off and was unsuccessful. I'd clap and one sensor light would come on indicating it registered my clap, clap again, and the second sensor light would come on indicating it heard my second clap. Then the lamp I was turning using would turn on. Yay! But then, I'd clap and a sensor light would come on, but then a bird would chirp, and I'd be locked out. Wait a few seconds. Clap... The sensor light didn't come on. Wait a few seconds. clap. the first sensor light came on. clap again at the appropriate time, but it wouldn't pick up the 2nd clap... so again, I'd wait for the sensor lights to go off to try again... I figured it would get better as I practiced, but it didn't. I don't know how this would work in a room with a tv or radio on as I live in a pretty quiet small apartment and the other noises kept interfering. I sent this back and would not recommend this.

This is the old-fashioned clapper, it’s good to use for a senior citizen that has trouble turning the lights on and off. The only suggestion I have is to be patient with the it , it has to get used to your clapping sequence, then it works very well

I purchased one of these for my fiance for our bedroom so we could kill the lights after we read bedtime stories without getting out of bed. We both were pretty excited about this doohickey.The first night we tried it out, we couldn't even get it to turn on. Shamefully I had to read the manual. Big guy no-no. Evidently, you have to have solid, loud, and perfectly spaced claps. I don't know if it is the acoustics in our room or what but it is a rare occasion that it "Clap On Clap Off"s. One would think that something so touchy to turn on would have no problem staying off, right? Not so much. Weird crap turns it on. Sometimes a couple of coughs will do it. Another time, it activated from bed-noise during review-censored activities. Also, in the morning right after you wake up: not the best time for 1- loud noise 2- clapping or 3- trying to time those claps in any way shape or form. My advice; pay the extra and get the one with the remote, get a string, and tether the remote somewhere handy so you wont lose it. My better advice; thought there is no clapping feature, there is a similar device my mom introduced me to this last holiday; a remote control on/off switch for the x-mas tree lights. It plugs into the outlet and therefore can be used with anything. It was just marketed for the tree lights. There is no clapping required, it runs about half the price, and it is not a bulky white 70's looking thing hanging from the wall. I'm not sure the name of it, but with a little hunting, I'm sure it is easily found.

In the "Why didn't I do this before?" file: The Clapper. Those of us over a certain age will remember the commercials. "Clap on! Clap off! Clap on, clap off, the Clapper!" My specific memory is the last few seconds, with an "old" (to me) lady with white curly hair clapping her hands twice in a very succinct fashion and she rolls over in bed as her light shuts off. That's me now. I should have done it before the hip operation but so it goes. I have the original house automation appliance and can shut my nightstand light without having to reeeeeach over there (it's not close, the way things are set up). I can nestle into bed with River beside me, snuggle up to my pregnancy pillow on the other side (it's great for my bad back, hip, knees, etc. I highly recommend it and will link it in the comments) and clap my hands to shut the light. Of course, it also turns the light on and off when I'm clapping my hands at the dogs because they're being buttheads and I need extra emphasis on what I'm saying to them. Or when I close the nightstand drawer a little too hard. Or the bed shifts against the wall. Or I drop something on the hardwood floor, which is happening way more often than is necessary. If I applaud something, my bedroom becomes a disco. But I don't have to contort myself and hurt my new hip to shut my light anymore. Who needs fancy AI-enabled house automation when you can just clap your hands? Alexa, Google, etc. can buzz off. Or, clap off if you like. 5 claps for the Clapper. 👏👏👏👏👏

Very pleased. Now and again it’s a little sensitive to sound, but overall I would buy it again.

Got this because toddler often falls asleep while we are reading books and wanted a way to turn off the light without moving them, and this did just that. It takes some getting used to in terms of the “sound” the clap should make but it works wonderfully and just what you’d expect

always wanted to own one of these ever since I watched Bruce Almighty as a child. It works remarkably well - one bit of advice though, if you do intend to use this in the UK, make sure you get a device that'll drop from 220v+ to 120v- otherwise the device you plug into it, will try and draw more power than this device can supply voltage wise, and it may cause an electrical fire!
