Review: Received mine two days ago and promptly hooked it up only to discover that the LCD readout only functioned partially. As it stands I am unable to see the actual temperature readings or know for sure if I have set the correct temp on the unit as only parts of the number grids will display but not enough to know exactly what number you are setting. Aside from the bad display, the unit seems very basic to operate and the included instructions were sufficient. Like many others, I must have gotten a bad unit. EDIT 01/01/2017 I was contacted by the seller shortly after posting my original review and they offered to replace the defective unit for me. Upon receiving the replacement unit with expedited shipping, I am happy to say that the display is working perfectly and it appears to be maintaining the temperatures much better too. I'm very satisfied with how things were address and resolved.

**Q: how to switch from °F to °C?**
A: Hold down on the up and down buttons at the same time

**Q: how many mats can be connected to this?**
A: I have used these with a power splitter outlet into 2 mats and they work fine. The controler applies power till the programmed temperature is achieved then shuts off. Unit will cycle to maintain temps. I've heard the mats burn out frequently but with a controller I've never had a problem.
I usually set for 54°F and tomatoes, peppers, tobbacco, leeks love it some plants pop up in 24 hrs. usually 2-3 days. A small low velocity fan will prevent damping(mold/mildews). Do not shut off heat and fan or damping will take hold in less than a day. And do not use anything other than sterile medium for seedlings/starts
 No fertilizers for couple weeks and definately no contaminates azomite will introduce spores/damping.

**Q: Is this a thermostat with a mat or does it work with any other mat?**
A: It is just a thermostat. It works with anything heat outputting, like a heating lamp. The probe senses the temperature and turns the power on or off to whatever you plug into it.

**Q: Is the probe ok with saltwater ??**
A: Instructions state "do not immerse temp probe in liquid" so no .

This is the first time I have grown vegetables, especially from seed indoors. I have used the mat for about a month and a half now and it's been working great for my jalapeno and tomato seeds. Where I expected germination to occur in 2-3 weeks for my peppers, I saw results in about a week and a half. The controller for the mat is easy to understand and operate once you read the manual. I like that the thermometer probe comes with a suction cup so you can secure it to any humidity dome you are using. The probe seems to be accurate and reacts to changes in temperature quickly. I grow my seedlings in the basement where it's around 18C, but the mat keeps the soil toasty at 24C all day everyday no problem. I would buy the mat again if I needed to grow more seedlings in the future - for 20-25 dollars I think it is a good price.
