We use this for setting the soap dispenser on and have it set vertically on our countertop. This way, all the water drips from wet hands going to dispense soap fall on it.It soaks it all up instantly and the wet areas simply become a darker gray, which is actually a prettier gray than the dry gray :)It comes with a plastic holder that it sits in - imagine a cell phone holder. Its basically the same thing but for this granite piece. Although it is plastic, it looks nice. The plastic has many large holes in the bottom allowing any water to drain own that may have found its way there. You don't have to use the plastic holder, but if you don't and you drag or move the granite on your counter without picking it up, it may scratch your counter. I would rather just use it, especially since you don't really see it.The granite isn't something that really stands out which is nice. It just blends in with the look of everything, if you will.If you get soap on it or toothpaste, just be sure to wash it off right away. I did not and it kind of stained that area a light whitish color. You only need to just pick it up, and run it under water using your fingers to rub the spot with the soap to clean it off. It is quick and easyI had been looking for something like this but nothing really worked based on reviews. This doesn't have any crevices or lines that things can get stuck in and get moldy or have to be cleaned. You just let the granite do its job.I say just buy it and spend time researching something else :)

* Six Month Update: I still like the product, though the "stone" developed a slight warp so it rocks in the plastic cradle. Still no mineral build up or discoloration. Still perfectly usable but will keep monitoring. Removing one star.I tried this drying mat based on other reviews and love it. I wanted an alternative drying mat for wine glasses, as the folded cotton towels I used kept becoming moldy underneath. Even placing glasses upside down on the mat, the stone's porosity allows them to dry inside and out. The surface is smooth enough that it doesn't seem to scratch the glasses, though to be safe I try not to slide them around. My area has hard water, so mineral build up was a concern, though after a month of regular use there has been none. The grey color goes well with my green and tan kitchen and this mat was an excellent fit for the small section of counter I use for drying.

I don't use a dishwasher much, so I wanted something that I could leave out and it not be an eyesore. This fit the bill. It works great and looks nice on the counter when not in use. Plus, it's small enough that it can be stored when not in use if that is your preference.

I got this for my cats water bowl. I’ve tried using the trays that come with the plant pots and they worked for a while but my cats love their water and it just made a huge mess. I even had them placed on another tray next to their dish but this needs no extra tray. It collects water and disappears fast. It was funny to see my cats reactions when they saw the water hit it then watch it disappear. They are now use to it and they don’t stop drinking to investigate what’s going on. Definitely recommend but wouldn’t if it were just for dishes because this is very small so it works great for small items!

I purchased this because my cat is a really messy drinker and leaves the floor soaked. So this has been super helpful that I don't have to put paper towels down, or a plate under the bowl to just collect a puddle of water. I do notice that while the bowl isn't wet underneath, there appears to be a sorta damp spot, in color anyways, from where the bowl was sitting. I think it's fine though. Seems to do its job for the purpose I purchased it for. I think if you used it for dishes, it would be for max 3 items, it's so tiny for washing dishes with.

Small does not absorb water if you wash dishes from a meal… if you are only washing a cup or glass does great.

Perfect item for the sink does exactly what it says in the ad. Great new purchase for the kitchen.
