Good Performance & Value...But They Changed the Price

Very good performance from the 2 I bought. I build upward of 80 computers each year, so I have a pretty good idea of what to expect in terms of value components in terms of price to performance. When I bought two of these two weeks ago, they were $50 each, undercutting other 250GB drives by about $10. Based on this, I decided it was worth the risk of buying from an unproven, unrecognized manufacturer. Now, on to my impression of the drive.Aesthetics:This SSD looks great. It looks like it's brushed and black painted aluminum, but it could be some other metal. Either way, it's easily among the best-looking SSDs out there, in my opinion. Not too flashy, but it looks like a premium product when you get close to it, and black with white lettering is pretty inoffensive if you're looking to color-coordinate your rig.Performance:Using CrystalDiskMark on both drives, I saw roughly 525MB/s read, and 390-400MB/s write. This is definitely quick, and the 4K read and write are quite impressive too. For the money, again, the performance (WAS) either hard or impossible to beat.Reliability:I don't think anyone has owned one of these long enough to comment in any notable way on reliability, since they appear to have been released no earlier than Q4 2015 here on Amazon. If someone has one that has died in a few short weeks but wasn't DOA, well, that's a pretty significant worry. But I haven't had any issue like that. That said, both of my drives report temps of 40C in a fairly cool room...I've been using these only in Maine in the winter so far. 40C is 10-17C higher than what I'm used to seeing from SSD brands that I know and trust (Samsung, Crucial, Sandisk, etc.). SSDs are not mechanical, so I'm not sure where the extra 10-17C is coming from...it's a little strange to see an SSD operating this warmly. I'm not super worried about the temps, but they're higher than they could be, and may affect long-term drive health. I'll update this review if I have any issues or new revelations here.Price:The Faspeed F710-250G is fairly new on the scene, and operates a good deal warmer than well-respected and proven SSDs. Yes, these drives are pretty fast, with Read speeds on par with all but the best SATA SSDs (which are the only fair comparisons), and Write speeds about 100MB/s below the competition. Given the mix of performance, questionable operating temps, and lack of known branding, I would buy this drive at $50, as I did, but a 20% price hike really, really hurts the value proposition for a newcomer like Faspeed. Conclusion:These drives lost one star for running so warm. I wanted to knock off another for the 20% price increase, but value is only so much of the equation for some people, so I'll leave that decision up to you. This was a great deal when I got it, but for $60 instead of $50, I won't buy it again. I can always pick up a 240-256GB SSD from one of the bigger guys for right around $60 thanks to constant sales and such. If Faspeed brings the price back down, I'll consider buying again in the future.

Difficulties with SSD and Help Notes

Item arrived very fast A+The SSD it's self was good. Quality was good. Packaging was flimsy. The installation on this SSD was difficult due to very vague instructions, little to no information was provided with package. After finally installing the SSD I went to the manufacture website to download the firmware for the SSD and found that the website no longer exists. Additional Notes: I bought this to use as a secondary Drive to put games on not as my main drive for OS. In order to install on UEFI you need to enable compatibility mode and turn legacy first on SATA devices. After saving your BIOS settings you need to go into Disk manager and make it a simple volume if you wish to add to your current storage with out having to install WINDOWS again. Finally, It's a good SSD IF you are computer Savvy and have the know how to go hunting the internet for help. If you are not familiar with SSD I recommend getting SAMSUNG.

Performance that Rivals SAMSUNG 850 EVO!!! What?!!!

This is my 5th FaSpeed SSD. 3x 120GB drives have made it into new systems and a repair. These 2x 250GB models are in my i5-6600k rig. One is serving as a Steam Games drive while the other is a catch all. It will eventually make it into my girls poor Lenovo as it's in dire need of a speed boost. She just can't bring herself to hand over that laptop yet as shes on it constantly. Anyway, I've been very impressed with the performance of both the 120GB and 250GB models. Even the 120GB model gives 500 Read & 300+ write which even some higher end drives can't deliver in 120gb capacity.Boot times are really fast for a drive of this price range and it even deals with smaller file transfers well. I haven't tested it exclusively as a small cache drive but looking at the benchmarks it should do well there also. And, to be honest..at such a low price if it should start to die from too many writes (120GB is $39 - 250GB is $59) it's not like you'd cry over the cash. If we get a solid year out of them I'd call it a win! Especially at 39 bones. And take a look at my benchmarks scores. Keep in mind that I'm running an i5-6600k on a Z170 board. Performance is similar to my beloved Samsung 850 Evo 250GB drive that i easily paid 25+ dollars more for! Performance, from what I've seen is excellent. Performing like an SSD should. Quick boot times, opening apps like a boss and shutting down in record time. At these prices, this is a great way to extend the life of your beloved system. Makes a world of difference.Recommended! However, Faspeedssd.com still doesn't exist and I'm not so sure about warranty or reliability at this point. So, keep your files backed up to just in case. I'm not overly worried because I'm sure they are sourcing their flash chips from the same sources everyone else is. Only a hand full of manufacturers to choose from. Otherwise.... for a cheap speed boost... this can't be beat!
