be aware these are slip joint for the internal fitting
The description is clear - 'double slip joint' - but my DIYer self did not make the connection when ordering. These have threads for the external nut to fit it to the barrel. The inside it smooth and requires a glue joint or adapter.I have another bulkhead similar to these from a rain barrel class and it has internal threads so you can just screw a hose bib directly to it. I let the product in my hand, keep me from clearly comprehending the actual product description since the inside of the product is not obvious in the pictures. These items will work with PVC pipe glued (ie slip joint). So to use a brass hose bib / valve a male adapter is needed. If you are planning to use these for overflow or with a PVC pipe you can glue strait to the fitting.Sounds obvious, but I missed it. Am I happy yes, as I was planning to use this for overflow and to tie several barrels together. If I had been intending to screw a hose bib right onto it I would had been upset with myself for not thinking about what the description says. The benefit of a threaded product is the hose bib sits close to the barrel and is less likely to catch on something.Hope this helps you to better understand this product description.

Great product, okay price.
This is a nicely finished product. It was packaged well and arrived on time. This bulkhead will work with a wall thickness of 1-1/4" max. If you are building an aqua grow bed with 1-1/2" thick lumber and a liner you will need to remove 3/8" or more of collar space from around the through hole creating an inset for the female screw on portion of the bulk head. You will want to drill the inset first, then the through hole. If you are building with 1"X lumber this bulkhead works perfectly. I did not find a better price on this product. If it had been under $15 I would have given it 5 stars.

Awesome to be able to get these so inexpensively
I'm creating an aquaponic system, and wanted to find a way to plumb a wooden grow bed. I thought I wouldn't be able to get bulkhead fittings for less than $10 apiece. So I was thrilled to find these on Amazon.com for such an affordable price.I find a 3/4 inch drain in a grow bed is just about perfect for the grow beds I've made so far, whether constructed out of small plastic bins or as large as 100 gallons. If you have a larger grow bed, you might want to get a larger size. The 3/4 inch size is also perfect if you want to make a bell siphon to drain a media bed for either hydroponics or aquaponics, where the bell siphon automatically drains the grow bed whenever the water reaches the top of the siphon. 3/4 inch pipe allows you to make an Affnan style standpipe inside the bell out of standard plumbing parts.

great bulkheads for the price
Very fast shipping! These are much better quality than I expected for the price. I like these better than the ones sold at the hardware stores as they have a lower interior profile which makes them perfect for making bell siphons in aquaponic systems. I would have rated this item 5 stars but one of the two packages I received only had 4 pieces in it. I contacted Amazon and they refunded a portion of the purchase price as I could not ship these back and wait for a replacement pack. All in all a great deal, and I will order these again for future systems.

This Is the Crucial Part If Building a Rain Barrel
I went to Lowe's for accessories needed for a rain barrel I am putting together and I carried one of these fittings with me. The floor sales representative in the pvc and plumbing department asked me where I got the fitting as he had many customers approach him looking for this item, which they did not stock. These items are at a huge discount from the rain barrel kits if you figure out what you are getting by close study of the advertisements and included parts.I highly recommend these--top quality and precisely what is needed for the project. The fittings likely exceed the quality of my workmanship in fabricating the rain barrel so rest assured if you order them. These are commercial grade and top shelf.

just what I was looking for
I was wondering what I could use to fix my rain barrels. at the time I have been drilling the exact same hole's as the size of the faucet and screwing that thru the plastic barrel. On the back side placing a threaded electric wire keeper ( such as those to hold cables to a circuit box or fuse box.) then placing a paste of adhesive to the medal nut inside and outside to keep it from leaking. This this makes it so much easier and solves all those issues.

Plastic gets brittle in time
These are good value for the money... but made out of a black plastic that gets brittle in time. They'll hold up as long as you're not putting much side-to-side pressure on them, but I had one of these break on me when a little pressure was applied about a year after installation.Be aware that these are SLIP JOINT on both ends (as another reviewer mentioned) -- not threaded! The thread you see in the picture is the thread for the nut that tightens the bulkhead. Your PVC pipe will need to be glued into this fitting on both sides.

NOTES FOR USE: These Join to 3/4" PVC pipe
I received this with no instructions and there were no instructions online. It was simple enough to drill a hole in a bucket and then attach the bulkhead with the washer and screw provided. But then I struggled to figure out what fittings threaded to the end of the bulkhead. Standard fittings from HD and Lowes did not work. Then I figured out that a 3/4" PVC pipe could be cemented into the interior of the bulkhead end.I hope this helps someone save some time!
