Manufacturer states there is no residue after using. Is this accurate?

No residue but left a chlorine outdoor for about a week. I would recommend this. Used it on a pre owned vehicle that was smoked in, worked awesome, after 3 years there is no traces of cigarette smoke.

For someone that smokes every day in basement how long will this last?

It is really good for cigarette odor but yiu may have to use more than one since you have 5 rooms, especially if you smoke in all rooms.

can thos product eliminate cigarette smoke from upholstery?

I am not sure it will get cigarette smoke out of upholstery -- you may want to try to have it steam cleaned. I can say that the general odor in the apartment that we bought was largely eliminated after leaving it in the apt over a long weekend.
