We own an aquarium business and these pumps are workhorses and last forever. We have been running these for years our in store sumps for both fresh and saltwater.

Great Head Pressure!
This pump is a beast. Great all around pump for my saltwater pumping station. Plenty of head pressure to get from the basement to my tanks. Very quiet as well for the amount of power this pump has. Great pump!

Good solid pump for my 200 gallon freshwater aquarium application
I've had a Pan World 100PX running for 20 years on my 55 gallon and need to step up the flow now that I have a 200 gallon fresh water tank. I've calculated that I have about 10m of head using the following rules. I'm using 1 inch flexible hose for all my fittings.1 foot for every 90 degree angle (9)1 foot for every ball valve (3)1 foot of head for every 10 feet of pipe (3)So, with 15' (3 meters) of head from tubing and then another 2 m of actual lift I have 5 m of head not counting the resistance of the media (3 foot x 4" fluidized bed, 3 foot x 4" pumice bed, 1 foot UV unit, in that order). Lets say may add up to another 5 meters of head. So, the head versus flow curve on this pump says I should get between 100L/min for 5 m head to 70L/min for 10m head. For a 200 gallon tank this is 5 to 7.5 tank volumes per hour. Lets hope it works! The pump arrived in a previously opened packaged wedged in a box with some random pieces of styrene. Although the pump looked OK at first, it turned out to be non-functional. I found this out after I had plumbed it into my aquarium system. A quick consult with the on-line manual suggested using a screwdriver to move the fan blades and try switching on. This is when we noticed that the end fan cap had been crushed inward enough on one side of the center grill, to trap the fan blades which prevented the motor from turning. The end cap comes off with three screws. I used a solid PVC 2" to 3/4" adapter and a brass hammer to bring the end cap back to flat which was enough to give clearance for the fan blades and the motor seems to run OK. So, I see no need to return it.This pump has plenty of flow and was not actually any sort of overkill for this tank. The return flow is vigorous but not excessive and all my filtration media are getting flow. The pump itself is quieter than the Pan Flow 100X that this replaces. That pump had a high pitched whine. The 250PS has a lower hum that is silent enough. The loudest part of the pump is the ventillation fan sound because the end cap is probably not quite the right shape and is a little close to the blades.Update....10/12/18 I posted the above to the sellers website and a new end cap just arrived in the mail. I have no complaints having received this excellent service. I recommend this seller Premium Aquatics Inc. and this pump.
