Works Perfectly!
*Updated* This item works as stated! If you have a Macbook pro all you do is connect it to the computer's mini display port, connect a hdmi cable (separate cable that you must buy in order to use this) and then plug the hdmi cable into your tv's hdmi input port. The macbook should automatically start sending video and audio feed (Plug and Play!). If there is no audio, simply go to the system settings menu, select "sound" then choose your tv as the sound output device and that should fix the problem! If you cant see your computer screen on the tv, don't panic! because if you see your laptops background it works. In order to see your open windows and other applications, drag the application task pane to the right of your macbook screen until you go off the page, you should then see the window being dragged onto your tv. This is a really cool feature that lets you multitask with two screens. This is called a mirrored feature. If you would like to see your dock for full emulation, then in "displays", select "arrangement" on the top and select the checkbox for "mirror displays". If part of your screen is cut off, go to the "displays" in system settings and on the right there is a slider control called under scan. Manipulate it to your liking and it will adjust the screen size. In the same displays menu, you can choose your output resolution all the way up to 1080p but you can play around with the resolution to see which one suits your liking. You can also have a video playing on the tv that you dragged over there while you check your email on your actual macbook pro's screen. With this device you can also decrease your laptops brightness to fully black and the video output's visibility will be unaffected so you can save your computer's energy. Overall, this device is definitely worth it. Great Product and I hope this review helps!

Great HDMI adapter
I thought it was a strange decision for Apple to switch to a mini DisplayPort output on the unibody MacBook Pros, instead of HDMI video output, but this adapter remedies Apple's decision (as long as you have a MacBook Pro from 2010 or later). Before 2010, the Apple did not include audio in the mini DisplayPort output. If you have MacBook Pro from 2009 that has a mini DisplayPort output, you'll need this adapter or this adapter for 5.1 channel digital audio . For 2010 MacBook Pros and later, the Kanex iAdapt works great. When I set mine up, the Mac automatically detected my TV. I had to make a slight adjustment in System Preferences under Display to get the display the correct size, but that just took a few seconds. For sound, you need to go to sound under System Preferences and click on Output and select your TV. Then it works perfectly. Thank you Kanex for making an affordable adapter that makes using the mini DisplayPort and an HDMI cable a piece of cake.

Seems to be doing pretty well.
So far, this seems to be doing well. With our older, cheaper adapter we would have to unplug it and plug it back in and cross our fingers and basically hope that it worked. Before long, that cheaper version didn't work at all. So, if you don't want to bite the bullet and buy an adapter straight from the Apple store, don't be fooled by the $4-$8 range of adapters that you can easily find. Yes, they're cheap, but you definitely get what you paid for. This model is not very expensive, either, so I won't expect it to last forever -- but so far it is outperforming our cheapie version by leaps and bounds. We don't use it that often - only when we want to watch Netflix on our TV and we hook up our laptops - so it definitely serves its purpose for us.

Glad apple thought people didn't like HDMI ports...
This works Flawlessly on my 2011 Macbook Pro. I highly recommend spending the extra dollars and get this adapter. As stated by others, the audio does in fact work, you just have to open your system preferences, select sound from the second row, then choose the hdmi device. Super simple. The top of it is silver by the way even though it appears to be white in some of the pictures. The silver part is very easy to scratch up though so be careful with it getting next to metal stuff such as your keys etc. I've had the adapter for two days and the top of it is already scratch from being in a pocket of my backpack with my keys. I almost want to dock it a star for the thin paint on the top, but it works great so I'll just repaint it later.

Buggy!
Just like the adapter sold in Apple store (Moshi Mini Displayport to HDMI) that also sends audio via MDP(Mini Displayport) it causes the iMac to freeze intermittently when switching sources. This happens when the HDMI cable goes from the MDP adapter to AV receiver and then from receiver to HDTV. However, if connected from MDP adapter to HDTV directly it works just fine. This isn't ideal in a home theater environment where all the sources (HTPC, PS3, XBOX 360, etc.) are plugged into a receiver. The packaging doesn't come with any manual but the picture in front of the box that it's housed in clearly shows how to plugin the adapter. It does show that the HDMI cable from the adapter can be connected to either an HDTV or a projector or an AV receiver. So, according to the picture I shouldn't have any issue but I am and it seems like the product wasn't fully tested. Before I bought the Moshi adapter I bought a Monoprice MDP adapter which was advertised to send audio and it's even written on the package but the audio doesn't work and Monoprice updated their product page to note that audio in fact is not supported. This Monoprice version doesn't cause any issue with the iMac. I can switch sources all day without causing iMac to freeze. It's just too bad the audio doesn't work. So, I ended up ordering Toslink cable to handle audio and use the Monoprice MDP adapter to handle video for now and I will be returning the Moshi and Kanex adapters. I am curious to try the adapters on a MacBook or a MacBook Pro just to see if the same problem occurs just to rule out that our brand new iMac is free of defect.

Works flawlessly - Video AND audio
This is essentially the same review I just left for "Mini DisplayPort to HDMI Adapter Cable, 6 feet" which I just paid $8.67 for. I plugged this neat little adapter into my new MacBook Pro (late 2011 model) and into my new "AmazonBasics High-Speed HDMI Cable" and then into one of my Pioneer Elite TV's HDMI ports. I tested it with a DVD movie and also with a home movie on the Mac. I had to go to System Preferences, Sound to select the Pioneer as my audio output device the first time only and had to choose Display Mirroring and it worked perfectly -- video and audio. Not a single problem. I'm not sure if Mirroring is the only way to get it to work, but that's what works for me. By the way, I was surprised that every subsequent time, the Mac always recognized the TV as my audio output whenever the cable was plugged into it. This is a high quality, well-made adapter and does all that it says on the box.

Worked Intermittently and Failed Within 12 months
We purchased this device in May 2012. It did not even last 12 months. It broke completely in February 2013. It was tempermental from the start and would not always work in recognizing the HD TV when it was plugged in with the adapter and an HDMI cable. Sometimes the TV had to be turned on already for the computer to recognize the external source. Other times, we had to turn on the TV with the HDMI cable already plugged in. Sometimes, there just didn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why it would or wouldn't work. I agree with other reviewers who noted that unplugging the adapter frequently from the computer seemed to have caused problems with the longevity of it. We had initial problems with making it work even when TV was recognized by the computer, but those were my fault (user error). Using the "gather windows" feature and the alternate audio selections in the drop down menus, as instructed by earlier reviewers, helped me overcome my lack of basic technical savvy. When the device did work it was really wonderful to be able to stream Netflix, BBC, and PBS shows that we would have ordinarily had to watch on the computer. It is a grea idea. We have tried ordering another brand that seems to have better reviews on Amazon. Looking back however, between the cost of buying two of these adapters plus a 50 foot HDMI cable, it might have been better to just buy an Apple TV device or other similar device, which is probably only about $20 more than we have spent so far.

excellent with reservation
I purchased this item to hook up my late 2008 MacBook Pro to Samsung TV. Works very well, setup is easy and from this side I have really nothing to say with one exception: as my mac does not supply audio to mini display port I run separate 3.5mm AV jack cable to TV. When mac uses integrated graphics everything is fine, but when I switch to discreet sound disappears. I am not really sure who's fault is it, adapter or TV (because if I plug AV straight to sound system I have sound). Looks like when adapter receives signal from discrete graphics it expects the sound to come along and TV switches from AV input to HDMI. So I have to keep it on integrated at all times (another option will be to connect AV straight to stereo but occasionally I need sound from TV itself). Not big deal for me, but may be concern for others (like gamers). When I connect it to MacBook Pro early 2011 where sound is supplied via mini display it works on both integrated and discreet with no problem.

Adaptador perfecto
