Application and Exploration
This book will be the culmination of what my students will learn through books 1-4. They will have the opportunity to work through From Zero to Proficiency (Advanced) as a final assessment project in my online Game Programming Course. Because it is designed to be a stand alone text, students will have guidance throughout the projects, while still building on the knowledge they secured through From Zero to Proficiency, books 1-4. Critical thinking will allow students to experiment and try different approaches, knowing that they can come back to the text for guidance and instruction. The advantage of the Unity 5 From Zero to Proficiency texts is that there are successes along the way. No project is so cumbersome, that an individual student or small group will struggle to complete the courses outlined in the books. Learning Unity and C# are major goals of my course, and over the course covered by these books, my students have learned enough to explore on their own, which is what I am looking for in book 5 - Application and Exploration.I used this book as the culminating project in my online Game Programming class. Unfortunately, time did not permit completing the book, and the students had the opportunity to work through the game in Chapter 3 as a final project. Working with databases will be included in the curriculum for next year, as I look to working through the first 3 books in a more timely manor. Students were asked to read through the materials in Chapters 1 & 2 to get a sense of the value and use of databases.

Needs work
Covers a wide range of topics and gives a reasonable introduction to those topics. However, reliance on legacy components that were deprecated even at the time of publication is frustrating since not everything works. Judging by the staggering number of mistakes in the text and code, I don’t think this book was proofread even once.

I really enjoy this series
I really enjoy this series. As someone with a basic knowledge of how Unity works, these books are perfect for me. The examples are explained well and by following the code provided, I am able to see how things are created and programmed. To be honest, I have not made it completely through this book yet but so far everything makes sense and I am able to recreate what is shown. For me this is exactly what I want from a training book or tutorial. Patrick Felicia has created an excellent series of books that will increase your ability to work in Unity.

Enjoyed the book
I really enjoyed this book. I especially enjoyed chapters 1 & 2. Creating scenes procedurally was something I never experienced before and really had fun with that chapter. I just wish there was more. Chapter 2 was excellent on how to access and update a database from Unity using MySQL and PHP in a LAMP/WAMP system. You don't see this in many Unity books that I have come across. Chapter 3 had some issues. I don't recall the specific issues but I had to email the author to figure it out. The author emails you back unlike some other authors I have come across. I really want to give this book 5 stars but to be fair there were some issues where the code in the book was wrong but nothing major. The author said he would fix it anyway. I highly recommend the book. Left me wanting more.

A great guide through Unity's more intricated resources.
This book follows the easy learning format of Patrick Felicia's previous books. It requires the minimum anount of Unity knowledge and at least a modicum of effort to get you started on some heavy tricks to use in Unity 5. I highly recommend this book to anyone curious about implementing multiplayer in their game and also who wants yo pravtive optimizing their games to run smoothly.

Might as well just watch/read the unity tutorials.
I bought purchased this book specifically for the chapter on networked multiplayer. It is a nearly a line for line recreation of the official network tutorial offered by Unity. There was next to no additional information in that chapter of this book.

Helpful book for intermediate Unity developers
I've been using Unity for years now, yet this book covered topics I haven't attempted myself before. Procedural generation, databases, and networking are the main topics in this, and they're covered fairly well. The book runs you through examples to show you how stuff works, and each snippet of code is explained so you know what's going on. I'd recommend this book to anyone who wants to ease their way into these topics.

I liked
The book may be difficult for those who do not have some programming knowledge. The difficulty is due to working in 3 different languages: C#, xml and php. Despite all this, I feel it is a very complet book. The best I've read so far from Patrick Felicia. I recommend it.

Good step by step, hard to follow codestyle
The functions explained are atomized, you will learn step by step. The code style is definitely not clean code with very long expressions and variable names with no meaning. You will have to read the same line a few times. It is supposed to be advanced level, and so are the patterns used but it is explained for beginner Unity users explaining too detailed and many times simple tasks like creating a prefab. You are supposed to use some resource files to follow the exercises but there is no link to download the files, you have to go to the website and register, then the resources are suppsed to come by email but they are not sent, the website will be driving you from one page to other page full of click baits about videos and courses unitl you finally find the resources in a direct download URL, which basically it could have been provided in the book.

outdated multiplayer
while I find this book to be a good read, the important part of multiplayer describes using the obsolete networkbehaviour class. so do not buy it for multiplayer programming alone (like i did).the first chapters are well worth the purchase to me anyway.
