Can the product be handheld, or do you have to keep it flat and bend over a table for 15 min?

Plug in. It also needs to sit flat on a table. My husband is using it daily and is very pleased with the results.

Can essential oils be used in this

I'm an aromatherapist, and I use this for aromatherapy. The danger with adding oils is in the bottom where water is boiled. Essential oils are flammable, and there is a small risk of fire if the water runs out but oil remains on the heating surface. I put on to three drops of essential oils on pads that I stick in the tray on the device.
