Fascinating look behind the curtains of wealth
I absolutely loved this book. The book really digs into how wealth flows around the globe and influences so much in our politics and policies. The way international policies are bent to allow kleptocrats to shelter themselves and scandals like the 1MDB to occur is surprisingly riveting. The author does a fantastic job in clearly laying out how such shadowy practices came to be and just how murky it can truly get when trying to unravel them to see the truth. I highly recommend this book if global finance or scandals interest you.

Pretty Good Book, however......
Overall a good book. The author gives a good primer of the money hiding and laundering schemes that perpetuate around the world. It is a problem that everyone should be aware of and kudos to the author for having the courage to write about it.On his economics, he is a bit shaky and superficial. It also appeared that he did not connect the dots ion the relationship between the tax code, bureaucrats, the legal system and politicians.Politicians, bureaucrats and the courts are what allowed the problem in the first place. And they have used the tax code as their instrument of corruption allowing bureaucrats and lawyers to become wealthy. He spoke of officials going to court pursuing justice, implying that they are above reproach. Anyone who has spent time studying the world's legal systems knows in the vast majority of situations justice is the last thing one finds in court. As for those who use Moneyland? They can only do so because the tax code, the politicians, bureaucrats and the legal system allow it.The chapter where an analyst "who made the "discovery" figured out the "rich get richer" and so his clients should sell them luxury goods, was puzzling. Why it was included in the first place makes one think the Publisher wanted the book to contain a few more pages. It shouldn't take someone more than 5 minutes and basic math to figure that out. Any longer and they are simply dogging it.One final note; using a Timothy Geithner quote on tax evasion integrity is akin to having Al Capone vouch for the virtues of law enforcement.

Understandable book
The subject of how the wealthy steal is difficult for a reason. It is a purposefully tangled web that is a feature, not a bug, in the system. That also makes many books dense and mind boggling to follow the money trails but this one did a great job making it easier and entertaining enough to keep reading. I can’t claim to know a lot about international money movements but for the first time I felt like; I get it. We don’t need to be able to unknot the shell companies and banks to see how it avoids detection and with some basic understanding we can perhaps begin to tackle the issue. It also makes clear the problem isn’t somewhere else, it’s very much right here in the USA.

Scary, but Good Book
Scary because of how much dark money is circulating the globe, and truly undermining democracy. Lots of factual details, including some of Paul Manafort's shifty political and financial maneuvers. Give you some insight into why certain people in high places are so reluctant to speak out against leaders like Putin, although the Russian leader hardly has a monopoly on the dark money game.

Well researched and thought provoking
“Moneyland” will either make you shake your head in disgust or want to move there yourself. It’s up to you.

A disjointed account of corruption
Maybe it’s that authors like Mr. Bullough and Mr. Shaxson (Treasure Islands book) want so badly to report on corruption and financial institutions opacity that they think their political views are the answer. And that’s a shame because their reporting and specially this book are enlightening. With plenty of references for those who want to dig more and also proof of the lengthy research needed to publish this book, “Moneyland” is a deep dive on how oligarchs and companies take advantage of non-transparent legislation of democratic societies. This has profound effects on both the developed and no-developed world that can simply destabilize democratic societies. And just for that reason, this book deserves a read.

A GREAT READ about Horrible Greedy MF
I LOVE this book. It pulls back the veil of secrecy on the greed and money laundering. I have to stop every few pages though becuase at the same time, the honesty affects me and I have to step away or I'll be bitter. I lived with someone while in my 30's and they had a place in Monaco, and used "shield" companies to protect them from 1) losing money 2) liability.... to say that they weren't honest would be an understatement and I see them all over this book. Its better to KNOW that to not know, so buy this book and read it. Its eye-opening.

Superb book!
"Moneyland" paints a disturbing picture of how the "super rich" work to steal billions across the world, threating democracy and justice across the globe. Crooked politicians, dictators, white collar criminals, drug lords, and organized criminals have created a global system to steal billions from the people and hide it in "moneyland." Hopefully, a few honest men will take note and move against these thieves who are seeking to live in luxury at the expense of us all. This book should be mandatory reading for every U.S. politician. Thanks for exposing these thieves and making us aware of this threat to modern society, highly recommend!

Very illuminating
I thought the book was a very illuminating explanation of how money is laundered through various entities often with the connivance of the governments. It outlines the willingness of major players in the financial system to break the laws in pursuit of profits from assisting money laundering. The end result may be you will realize the hypocrisy of the major players involved that claim to be ethical businesses but are not.

Corruption and Money Laundering
Enlightening and insightful look at how the rich and corrupt politicians hide money. Makes you think and depresses you to think how the rich avoid paying their share of taxes and those entrusted with public trust steal and hide money from those whose lives they should be improving.

The truth about lies and the lying liars who tell them
A thoroughly researched and illuminating discussion of the criminal concealment of the vast fortunes which run the world. It was a riveting read but I must confess I would frequently have to set it aside because the revelations made me incandescent with rage.
