Great for serrated edges, pen knives, pocket knives, exacto knives and carving / cutting tools with contoured edges!
I have this Diafold "Serrated" Knife sharpener in the Fine and Coarse diamond grits, and has thus far been very impressed with the quality of these sharpeners.I originally bought this with just the task of sharpening serrated knife edges in mind, but this sharpener has turned out to be more than just that. First, for the serrated edges - I have two Sypderco knives (Police, Delica) that have a combo serrated edge, and between this and the coarse grit, it works very well on re-honing the edge on the serrated VG-10 edges. Due to the VG-10 being a little more difficult to sharpen, your method has to be steady and you have to stick with it on the fine grit to get a nice edge. For the serrated knives in the kitchen - most of my kitchen knives are much softer and easier to sharpen than the Spyderco serrated edge - so after sharpening the Spyderco's the kitchen knives were a breeze. I used the coarse to get the edge started, then moved to this fine grit to finish it off.Where this sharpener came in handy and as a surprise is when I discovered how well this works on my small pen knives, pocket knives and mostly woodshop tools. It is perfect for pen knives and small pocket knives for touching up an edge - the size of the rounded rod is perfect for control and for small edges. Also, in my woodshop I use exactor knives and other carving / cutting tools that have curved edges For instance, Lee Valley makes a small carving tool with replaceable blades of different shapes / contours - like curved, sloped, straight blades - and these Diafold rod sharpeners turned out to be PERFECT for this application. I have also employed this tool in some of my plane restoration projects when there are tight spots that need a little filing or honing. The uses for this tool seem to increase daily. For instance,I wanted to touch up the edges on my electric hedge trimmer - again, tight spots without a lot of clearance and small edges to sharpen on the hedge trimmer - and this tool again shone in that application.Nice tool, highly recommended if you have any applications like serrated, tight spots, small edges, etc. I own many DMT tools, and the quality does not need to be justified - that is one thing you can rest assured of, that the quality is there. Thanks for reading.

You need this for any and all of your serrated knives!
Up until recently, I have been sending out my serrated knives to a service when they needed sharpening. I got the fine diamond blade which is all you will really need if your serrated knives are not too dull to start with and it will get your blades back to factory sharp in short order. It is easy to use and works on serrated knives as well as scissors, vegetable peelers and the like. Do not be surprised by the size or the price, this tool is serious and will give you years of solid use.

Good sharpener, bad, bad handle
Purchased the DMT serrated knife sharpener to use on recurved blades and scissors or other small jobs. The "Fine" diamond grit gives you the ability to quickly restore a hair popping edge. It will make short work of even the hardest steel. The handle drops this down a star. Being a dense idiot it took me 10 minutes to get enough courage to open these up, I thought there was some release mechanism that I was missing. But finally I gave up and said if they break they break. It's just bad design. And DMT can't even say it was done to keep the cost low, because it would not cost any more in materials to make a smoother handle. Anyone with mechanical common sense knows that the design is just bad. So it makes you wonder, WHY? Did DMT contract out the handle design? At a tool-making company one would hope there would be a few good engineers.

If you need something for tight spaces, just buy it. I have NEVER had a company take such good care of me..
Update 2/1/17: I The one I received broke on the second use. I called DMT and they sent me a new one, priority mail. They stood behind their product with absolutely no hassles. Even though the first one broke, because of this they still get 5 Stars from me.Update 1/23/17: I recently ordered another one because I lost the first one. Can't really function in my sharpening world without it.I sharpen knives, scissors and garden tools for supplemental retirement hobby income. This tool lets me get into tight spots without having to disassemble garden shears and such. Great for rounded edges that need sharpening and tight spots.Updated 5/3/2017. Ok, so I put too much pressure on it and broke it at the handle. Called the company and they told me they would send a couple of handles as I did this to another one also. Didn't receive anything for abut 10 days....started thinking about it, and in the mail today arrived two new complete of these tapered sharpeners, along with a folding flat file (fine) marked demo.If I had to reduce my tools to a small carry bag, you can be sure this would be in it. If I had to reduce to just one tool in my arsenal, this would be in the final three.
