As you can see by the size of the HDMI connector compared to the SVGA connector, it is NOT mini by any means, you can plug a standard HDMI cable into it and to the display (TV, PC monitor...etc) of your choice. Additionally, you can choose to use either the USB audio out OR use the combined audio which is part of the HDMI standard...pretty cool device, I use it on a PC in my living room to my 55" flatscreen, then use the built-in surround sound PC audio...not TRUE surround...but sounds great!

Q: Does it convert dvi-d to vga?

No, it connects to the VGA output port of the computer to the HDMI input device and the power for the connector is supplied by the usb port. If you look closely at the large male plug you will see a bunch of little pins this part plugs into the computer, there are two types of ports (male/female) used on the computers so make sure that this is the one that you need! There is also a port (DVI) that looks similar. I purchased this part vga to hdmi and no problems, connected to computer attached usb cable, drivers were loaded no problems..
