Maybe not for the price
As all artists know, materials are pricey. And with the added shipping and handling: even more pricey. I bought this as a gift for my sister and now know to only buy these products at the store, UNLESS, there is a discount on the actual product and/or free shipping.

Excellent model ship coating
I have used this product since 1976 for painting wood model ship kits. I have built ( over 30 ). I have used it on painted and unfinished mahogany, walnut,Tanganyika, and boxwood. On previously painted surfaces on the hulls, the color is even but the overlap of the brush strokes of the colored paint creates areas that are matte and some areas that are more glossy. This product, when applied with a sponge brush over a previously painted hull creates a consistent matte finish without obscuring the pores in the wood. I have used it many times on unfinished dark walnut where the color darkens just slightly and yet seals the wood while providing a little glossier finish than just the wood alone. The same is true for unfinished mahogany. The only caution is if you have an area that has been painted with matte medium and varnish, and you use cyanoacrylate for gluing items that will come in contact with any pre painted areas like (gun carriages, bits, pumps, or other wooden parts), any glue squeezing out on to the varnished surface will turn cloudy. Use the glue sparingly when gluing to the previously varnished surface. This product does not darken natural wood like minwax natural stain. It is an excellent product with the caution about gluing as mentioned above

Nice finish.
I used this product to varnish my paintings. I don’t like high gloss on paintings because it looks too much like plastic. Beautiful finish.
