I am not a chef, I'm a home cook, and I really appreciate a basic kitchen sharpener that does the job as simply as this one. Doesn't look fancy but seems durable, and it is compact--doesn't take up much drawer space. Figuring out how to use it is easy if you consult the package.

Highly recommend for the average person. Very lightweight and designed simply well. Never got cut due to placing my fingers on the base UNDER the blades. Tilting the knife and pulling back with a bit more force gets blades sharp enough.

The knife sharpeners are the BOMB! How can you beat inexpensive and easy to use? I use these on fish filet knives, paring knives, my butcher and chef knives and they are always razor sharp and ready to go. With this price, I pack one in my kitchen "go bag" for trips and vacations. They are easy and safe to use. The design is tinker toy simple but it works!!! A quick wipe down and you can throw it back in the drawer till next time. I have given a lot of these as little gifts and everyone loves these little suckers.
