The sitcom CPO SHARKEY debuted on NBC in late 1976, starring famous insult comedian Don Rickles (known to modern audiences as the voice of "Mr. Potato Head" in the Toy Story films) as U.S. Navy CPO (Chief Petty Officer) Otto Sharkey, stationed at the San Diego Naval Base to lead a group of seaman recruits. In CPO SHARKEY, Rickles has the Navy blues as he tries to whip a bunch of raw recruits into nautical shape. To say he fails isn't true because it was fun to watch him try. Every week, Sharkey had to deal with obtuse recruits, dim-witted seamen, stern captains, and a semi-understanding chief who tried without success to keep Sharkey out of trouble. As a 24-year naval veteran, CPO Sharkey had pretty much seen and heard it all. With his famous sharp tongued wit, Sharkey was politically incorrect before the term existed! In THE COMPLETE SEASON 2 finds Sharkey trying to cope with two new characters. Raw recruit Apadoca likes to tawk and Sharkey can t find the off button. But it s new commanding officer Captain Buckner who makes Sharkey s life a living hell. They get plenty of in-your-face time during a submarine mission in San Francisco. Buckner cringes at the thought of Sharkey hosting a Japanese CPO, and almost blows a gasket when a child is born in the barracks while crusading Congresswoman Bagley inspects the base. Sharkey is under constant pressure. His girlfriend gives him an ultimatum. He deals with a bout of Russian flu. He trains Rocky-style for a boxing match with a rival Marine lunkhead. Sharkey gleefully bails out his guys by foiling a crooked used-car salesman. He s earned his gotcha moment. It sure beats squirming all day.

and like the others that came after it
This sitcom was not unlike the Military sitcoms which began in the 1950's, and like the others that came after it. This sitcom just had to be a "video-recruiter " for the U.S.N., as Naval boot-camp is in no way what you see here. However, if you **love** the late Don Rickles, then this sitcom is a **must**. Casting Don Rickles as Chief Petty Officer Sharkey was inspired casting, to say the least ! Drill Instructors of any **title** in our country's Armed Forces are, as a necessity, **MASTERS** of the insult. And so was Don Rickles !

Good military comedy
This season Sharkey gets a male captain which he thinks is a good thing but it turns out not to be the case. The language this season is still not very pc so some people may be offended. The picture quality is not perfect and a half dozen episodes are syndication versions but the shows are good and give Don Rickles a chance to shine.

More comedy
Season 2 was good as well. Don Rickles was great in his role and the other characters ssupported him through the series show. Too bad that it only lasted 2 seasons.
