Unit One-Series 1

Another excellent Danish TV series
This series is of the same quality as the more recent ones from Scandinavia (The Bridge,The Killing, Irene Huss, Maria Wern). Actors are great, as well as the filming and thesceneries. This ones lets us see a bit of Denmark outside Copenhagen, it also hasa bit of humor, such as the cop asking a talking bird in a bar if he's seen the suspect(third episode). Each episode is upbeat, with lots of energy, but not without this touchof European subtlety generally lacking North American production.

Fabulous Danish TV series
I bought this because I'm a huge Mads Mikkelsen fan. I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised by the quality of acting and the engaging story lines. The dvd is in Danish with English subtitles, but is easy to follow. I have already seen series 2 & 3, and will be ordering 4 when it's available.

Anything with Mads Mikkelsen is fine in my book
As an American I find it extremely interesting to see another take on a cop show. Loved the program and the cast. Especially my "boyfriend Mads". LOL

Danish Noir
Those who enjoyed "the Killing" will be quite disappointed. This series is far less interesting. The writing is mediocre as is the acting.

This is a keeper
Let me get this out of the way, mads is horrible on tv's hannibal, ( only experience I have had with his body of work,) in my opinion, so i wasn't expecting much. The only reason I gave this 4 stars is because, I wasn't immediately smitten, from the beginning, the way i have been with shows like wallander, beck, a mind to kill, arne dahl, montalbano. brunetti, etc. by the second dvd, I was on board.Well written-stories, fr the headlines, like law and order, but since they occurred in denmark, they are new to us. Love the characters/their outside stories, and of course the beautiful scenery. this is keeper. Enjoy

PERHAPS NOT PREMIER LEAGUE NORDIC NOIR, BUT WELL WORTH A LOOK
Ingrid is controversially appointed Head of a Danish Homicide Unit. How will her tightly knit team respond to a woman in charge, especially when one of their number expected the post? Here are grim cases taxing the team to the full, their new awesomely equipped mobile investigation headquarters an asset indeed. Despite sundry flaws and complicated romantic relationships, very soon many viewers will care for them all - never more so than when tragedy strikes. Charismatic driver ex-footballer Jimmy Olsen offers light relief (it at times badly needed). As ever in such shows, the challenge is for viewers to beat police to identifying the culprit. This time there may be some genuine surprises.Nine episodes of around fifty minutes. Danish with English subtitles. No bonuses. When so much has gripped, many may head straight for Season 2.

The Best series I have ever seen
Nordic Noir; I watch everything and I have just finished the best series I have ever seen. Team relationship and crime stories with top class actors. I am going to watch NYPD Blue from series 5 onwards. I have seen 1 - 4, but unfortunately the episodes are too short 44 minutes, whereas Unit One were 1 hour each episode and sometime developed into 2 hours. I hope I live long enough to forget the ones I watched so I have the pleasure of watching them again.

Very enjoyable throughout and as good as the better known Nordic Noir series
The general standard of the Nordic Noir offerings is excellent, but I feel that this series has been somewhat overlooked. Once the characters had been established, the plots with their inevitable twists and turns made for very enjoyable watching. There was just enough of the group's private lives to add depth to their personalities, without spoiling the stories. As with all series, some stories are a bit better than others, but I have no hesitation in giving this the full five stars. I think that the few one star ratings are unjust.

Probably my favourite noir production.
I have watched the Unit One Series in a strange order, starting with Series 2, moving on to Series 3 and then arriving at the first series, before going on to the fourth! I wouldn't recommend this approach, but given that it happened, it was at least interesting to see how the characters of the unit were introduced after having encountered them in full flow, as it were.In any event I have become a devoted fan of the whole sequence. The separate episodes work well, as does the occasional running of the storyline over two episodes. Apparently the events are based on actual incidents, though probably loosely as happy coincidence plays a major role at times. The characters are fascinating as individuals in their own right, and the relationships between them give compelling continuity to the separate stories. I find the combination of charm and excitement an irresistible mix. Of all the noir productions this is the one I am most likely to return to in the future.

Top Quality
This is a good, solid series very similar to Arne Dahl: the scripts are well written and the characters well drawn. Good to see Mads Mikkelsen (in a supporting role) clearly enjoying himself. Scandinavian and Nordic series are currently enjoying something of a renaissance, and this helping is up there with the best of them. I could easily have rated this 5 stars, but I tend to be fussy and like my dramas to have a hard edge. This series is easily an eight out of ten and I've just bought series 2, so hopefully as the characters grow the writers will excel themselves and my next review will feature 5 stars.
