The outside measurements are roughly 17" wide X 5" thick X 14" high, not counting the soft handles. It has ample protective paddling for the laptop plus numerous, well organized compartments for carrying papers, folders, pens, pencils, ruler, etc. There is also more then enough space for toting a battery charger, a bottle of water, your lunch or any other similarly sized items that you would like to have on hand. In other words, this is not only handy for transporting a 15.4" laptop, but easily can carry a wide assortment of other items that any decent sized attache case could carry. While my wife prefers to carry this case by its soft handles, the included shoulder strap is a nice option to have if you want your hands free for other things. It's canvas like (but not canvas) material is soft and pliant and easily expands as you fill it up. My impression is that it will be quite durable. Overall, though I was a little apprehensive when ordering it, I am totally satisfied with the quality and usefulness of this computer case. Returned immediately for a refund from Amazon. ### ⭐⭐ Wonky handle - is it just me? *by F***T on July 26, 2013* My company bought me this bag and the construction is wonderful. Padding, zippers, materials are all great. But from the very beginning, the handle wouldn't stay extended, so when I walk along pulling it, it rolls fast, catches up with me, collapses the handle some, and then turns and wiggles sideways trying to pull me! Or I pause to open a door, release the handle, and the handle collapses, so I have to bend over to grab it again. I reported this to my company who kindly ordered me another one. This one is not quite as bad but seems to have the beginnings of the same problem. Will it be just as bad as the first one in a week? Time will tell. Overall, I'm not happy, and reluctant to tell my company again that it isn't working. Oh one more thing too: I'm not exceptionally tall at 5'8", but the handle seems to be made for a shorter person.
