wonderful, simple, and powerful story
In "Someone I love Died from a Drug Overdose," Melody Ray writes "When children are given true and accurate information, they can fully process the loss as they mature." This thoughtful book has a note to parents and caregivers at the start of the book, and concludes with a workbook for children who are experiencing grief due to the loss of a loved one to an overdose. This vibrantly illustrated book is about a little boy, Tommy, whose his dad has died from substance use disorder. In age appropriate, clear language, the mom tells Tommy that his dad was sick and died in the hospital. She explains that his dad had a disease called addiction. It is a wonderful, simple, and powerful story that will help a child to grieve the loss of a loved one who has died.Anyone who has a family member who has lost someone or knows someone who has lost a loved one to a drug or medication overdose should have this book.

Best book of its kind
I am a child psychologist and have been searching high and low for a book that would help some of my patients with their cognitive distortions around addiction. Used this as part of TFCBT, and it was very well received and understood by the children I work with. The illustrations (especially depicting the neurobiological aspects of addiction) were extremely helpful. Highly recommend.

Not too helpful
I liked the activity in the back but it was for a specific audience and not general.

Your children know they are not to blame.
Very difficult subject to discuss with children. This book helps to address this real issue in todays society.
