It's been quite hot where he likes to sleep, and this bed stays cool for a long time after being activated. When it's really hot, I take ice cubes and place them on top - they melt into the bed, and the bed is that much cooler. I had a cooling head band before and this is the same. My doggy loves it. He's alaskan malamute. So he needs to stay cool and this helps. You have to soak it again every other day for continuous cooling. If you have carpet I don't suggest putting it on it.
