No, there is no strong smell outside the bag. The candy itself has a scent that is very pleasant!

Are these mints the same as the square ones?

They are basically the same, but do taste a *little* different form the square mints. These are a little less violet-y and a tad bit sweeter tasting to me. Still great, but a tiny bit different taste.
