What side is the control on?

It can go either side, hope this helps.

Seems to be issue with the ties reading reviews - what us the issue please?

You would have to lift mattress to tie blanket down as the ties are srwn both sides of blanket but I don't use them and blanket stays flat and does not move so no problem
