what's the thickness of the charcoal layer?

The filter including the metal frame is 3/8" thick X 10 1/2" length X 8 3/4" wide. The charcoal layer itself is thin. I did not disassemble my filter so I couldn't be specific. However, I would say, using my tape measure, the charcoal layer including the back metal mesh and the front metal mesh is approximately a bit less than 1/8". It is thin.

I received my filter for a nutone pn 97007696 but its thicker and interferes with the fan. any suggestions?
