PetSafe Deluxe Easy Walk No Pull Dog Harness, Steel Gray, Medium/Large

PROS; - Works extremely well. I work at a pet store for a living and regularly recommend the Easy Walk harness for dogs who pull or lunge. I've had nothing but good reviews from people I've sold it to, too. - Reversible, so really nice if you occasionally need a back-clip harness as well. - Works essentially the same as the "regular" Easy Walk harness, with added padding for comfort. A major deciding factor for me was the reflective stitching on the Deluxe version. CONS; - The strap that goes behind their legs is padded, but not entirely so. Unfortunately, the way it fits my dog makes it so that the buckle is directly beneath one of her arm pits (leg pits?), which I fear isn't so comfortable. This hasn't been an issue that's come up, and doesn't seem to bother her, but that is something I'd watch for with a more sensitive dog. - Not inescapable by any means (but honestly, no harness is). The front has a martingale-esque design that tightens when the dog pulls. This is nice, but helps more with pulling than it does with security. If your dog is pulling backward, it will be able to slip out given enough time. This is easily preventable, aka don't pull your dog towards you if it's pulling back, it will likely slip out, but this hasn't been an issue whatsoever with me walking my dog. This IS an issue, however, when other people walk her and don't keep this in mind. - The front clip part has been consistently too big/loose on my dog, even while the rest of the harness fits perfectly. This is not a sizing issue as it otherwise fits perfectly, and we've had her fitted for easy walk harnesses in person before (I just wanted to purchase the cute blue one, haha). The design would work so much better if this front part were smaller or more adjustable than it is. WHAT TO KNOW; - These run a bit big compared to the sizing of many other harnesses. Measure your dog before purchasing of course, but do keep that in mind. - The medium vs the medium-large's biggest difference is the thickness of the straps themselves. For a heftier breed that needs stronger reinforcement on a harness, go medium-large. - A few people have complained that their animals have bitten through the harness... This is a comment that frustrates me because it is an entirely preventable issue. Pretty much any harness can be chewed through by a dog if it is left alone with the harness on. It is extremely sturdy. Never leave a harness on a dog unless you are walking it, or you are actively supervising it. If your dog chews out of its harness after being left alone with it on, that's on you and is definitely not an indication of the product's quality. While using it correctly, they've lasted me years with my pup. - Lastly, if you've never used a front clip, there is definitely a learning curve for both you and your pup. The first two or three walks will be a bit awkward, so don't be discouraged if it doesn't immediately come naturally. That said, you should immediately notice a difference in pulling; if you have a very strong dog, this is a great product for being able to easily control your pup.

There's no accounting for taste. It's the least of my concerns though. Walking Angus has been a challenge since he realized he was big enough to pull. Reactive and pully, that's Angus on a leash. After a year and half of that training struggle a rescue volunteer at a local shelter recommended a harness for walking. And not just any harness. This thing is the holy grail of harnesses. This thing removed all the fear reactions and pulling from our walks. So much so I look forward to taking him out for a few miles of neighborhooding. We walk 83rd Avenue toward the bank on the corner. There's three police cruisers, and five police officers and an SUV parked on the curb, in the turn lane on our side. Any other day, I'd avoid this scenario. Lights, radios, people gathered. Not now. The harness of epicness makes me as confident as Angus. We walk alongside the policing event. Two officers are waiting at the trunk of a cruiser. Not at all tense. "That's a good looking dog you have." "Thank you. His name is Angus." He points to my Sweetwater T shirt advertising all things guitar, "Like the musician?" "Yup!" He nods and we continue our walk. A young guy walks up to us, relaxed and not really interested in meeting Angus, but definitely interested in seeing him. "Wow. He's part horse, huh?" "We call him Stupid Pony for a reason. Angus is hilarious." "He's a cool dog." We walk on MLK, across from a large shopping center. Heavy traffic, horns, engines, people crossing blinky lighted cross walks. Voices, buzzes and the like. It used to be a curse to attempt. Now with his harness, he walks proud and confident. A speeding hover round carrying a highly energized woman comes barreling toward him exclaiming, "What a beautiful dog! Can I say hello?" Her smile is a big as her chair is heavy, and her voice is as rapid as the mph she's pulling with that thing. I ask Angus to sit. He does. I step between Angus and the oncoming woman on wheels. I see Angus' stress level going up via his eyebrows. "Wait. He's never seen one of these hover rounds, slow down." "OH! Well I can walk." She jumps out of this motorized thing and moves quickly to Angus, hand out. She has the top of her hand showing for him to sniff. She thinks this is some sort of good idea. "Wait. Slow down. Talk to me first, okay? I'm working his training." "Oh sure! I have a golden with some catahoula in him, he's catahoula isn't he?" Angus hasn't left his stress behind yet. And I'm not going to ask him to absorb hers. I invade her personal space forcing her to step back one step. "Yup, he's a catty. He's a good boy. His name is Angus. You'll have to say hello and wait to see if he wants to visit." She seems agreeable enough, and I step aside a bit allowing Angus to decide what option he'd like. She extends her hand again, and he smells it. He looks past her to the hover round, then up to me. "It's okay Bangus. You can say hello." He stands now, and takes two steps to her and accepts a head petting. "Wow he's pretty." Angus agrees and wags his tail. She jumps back on her red hover round and thanks him for his time and says good bye to me. This couldn't have happened a month ago. And this couldn't have happened without this harness of epicness. We walk further. A bike comes from behind, the rider zooms past us. Angus doesn't notice or care. A jogger approaches from afar, on our sidewalk. Angus takes note, and decides she's not worth his effort. "He's a pretty dog." She says as she passes. Angus looks over his shoulder to watch her progress away from us. A man walks past us now, pauses to compliment Angus and his leash etiquette. "What a great dog!" We walk. We walk happily, the leash draped in my hand relaxed. Angus is nose to ground now. We're in front of the retirement condo village. Roughly 453 yorkie terriers and shih tzu pee in this area. He is identifying species. His nose is on, his brain is off. And I'm far too relaxed. He lunges slightly forward and gobbles up some godawful looking mass of some thing that tickles my gag reflex. Too fast, too late, and he's already working it. There's discarded napkins nearby. My hope is the lawn crew carelessly left lunch pieces behind. The question is how old, and what comes next? There is no accounting for taste. Today is day two of Angus borfering randomly and soft serve ice creaming instead of pooping. His attitude, food and water intake are all intact. His digestion is simply letting him know he sucks. But this harness, this harness does not suck. Every dog person should have this harness. He is happier when wearing it. He loves putting it on. He loves his walks. And because of this, Angus is more socialized successfully on every single walk. I love this harness. I am not loving what is coming out of Angus' butt though.

After measuring my dog, I was unsure whether to order SMALL or MEDIUM. He fell into both categories according to their size chart. My rescue dog is a Dachshund mix, 27 lb, 13.5” chest, and 20.5” girth. First I ordered the Medium and It was too big on the tightest adjustments. Then I ordered the Small. My first impression was that it looked flimsy compared to the Medium. The straps were much narrower and I was concerned it would’t be strong enough for my puller/lunger. I adjusted the straps to fit securely. I could not create a T shape behind his front legs. Mine looked more like a Y. I called PetSafe customer service and brought up all my concerns. I was assured the small was the right size for my dog even with his weight being a little above the weight on the size chart and the fit more Y shape. They mentioned the sizing on the original (non deluxe) version had more flexibility and I could always try that. After 2 week trial: Not the right fit for my dog’s proportions. The front loop moved too far to each side when he pulled and when he was in a high reactive state, his front leg slipped through the chest strap. This happened twice so I returned it. I also found that it wasn’t great if I was ahead of him and had to pull him forward, away from something. I tried the 3 in 1 harness but that didn’t fit right either. I ended up getting a Balance Harness. This has 6 adjustment points and ensured a good, safe fit for my oddly shaped dog. Takeaway - The size chart for the deluxe is not accurate - needs an update. Call customer service if in doubt- they are excellent. Pros: Well made, reasonably priced. The reflective strips, martingale chest loop, and snap buckle are great design features. Easy on, easy off. Easy to turn your dog in a different direction if not too reactive. If fit properly, it definitely minimizes pulling. It has been a game changer for many of my friends, unfortunately wasn’t right for my dog. Proper fit is essential!

This harness is a game changer? I have a small dog under 20lbs but he is a little power pulling machine but since i have tried this on him, he can no longer pull, i fully recommend everyone struggling with pulling to give this a try!

This is an amazing product. We tried the Gentle Leader for our 75lb 6 month old Akita. That worked, but he would always paw at his face. It was also sad to see him with what looked like a muzzle, even after we took it off since it compressed his fur. After doing research, we found the same company made the Easy Walk Harness. This has been working beautifully. For a few extra bucks, the Deluxe version is worth it. It seems much more durable and comfortable. Our puppy will still want to walk ahead sometimes, but he has learned to check in with us and not pull so much. We have even tried using the leash on his regular collar and he's doing much better as well. I'm not sure if this is all the Easy Walk Harness because he also just completed his puppy course, but it definitely makes it easier to walk with him. All that is necessary is a gentle tug and he will either stop, check in with us or even heel. At the dog park we just leave it on and he barely notices it. When we're ready to leave we just clip the leash to the harness and we're ready to go and no longer have to worry about the pulling in the parking lot. This guy is going to weigh more than my wife soon, so I'm glad that we have this to help control his pulling.

I have a 58 pound lab put mix who has kind of a wide chest but not a super deep belly. One of her major size issues tends to be her thick neck. It's basically as thick as her head so any collar has to be SUPER tight or she can wiggle right out of it. So a harness is necessary. But she's smart and she has figured how to get out of every harness I have put her in. Whether it's backing up on a tight leash and slipping out of it or pulling so tight that her leg can fit through the neck hole and then she can slip the rest of the way through. So even harnesses need to have certain aspects to keep her from being able to slip out. What I like about this harness: The "martingale" style leash attachment on the front is a great idea. The harder they pull, the tighter it gets across the chest and then their legs pinch together and it makes it tougher for them to pull. It tends to come around to one side or the other when they are pulling tight but it's better than just having a single static ring on the front of the harness. I also like that it's easy to unbuckle and slip on and off. I just unbuckle it at the buckle near her elbow and slip it off over her head. Then putting it on is as simple and slipping the loop over her head and buckling around her belly. And it's not a tight squeeze over the head which has been a problem with other harnesses. I also like the neoprene. Since she pulls a lot, I believe the neoprene has kept the harness from rubbing her raw. But it's also one of the biggest problems I have with the harness as a whole... What I dislike: the neoprene. It's great for comfort but it makes it so the harness is super easy to loosen up. After a couple of walks, I always have to retighten the straps across her chest. I usually have them on the tightest possible and it doesn't take much to have them open up a couple inches on either side which makes it much easier for her to slip her leg through when the leash is tight. I also dislike that there is only one ring to attach to. I wish there was one on the strap that goes up over the back so I could have the choice of where to tether her. It would also make for a nice place to loop through since the harness tends to twist a lot on the body when it is not on tight enough. It's like she's wearing a sweatshirt that's way too big and someone is pulling on her sleeve. That's how bad it can twist on her. What this harness desperately needs besides a second attachment point is another strap that connects the rings on the belly strap up and over the head. If it had that, then no matter how hard she pulls, the harness would not slip down her chest to the point that she could slip her leg though and then get out. Sure, it might be annoying for some people to have one extra buckle but you could set it up with clips and make it detachable for those who don't need it. I would love to have 100% confidence in this harness but since she has slipped out of it so many times, it's taken me figuring out just how to manage that more than worrying about her pulling, which it definitely helps with. That's why I gave it 3 stars...

What I love... The price here is significantly lower than in the pet stores and I couldn't find the M/L in stores, which is the size I needed for my Lab. I walk a friend's dog who wears this harness along with mine and I like the design and control. I also wanted the Deluxe model for the reflective gray material, walking my Black Lab at night, and could find it here. I tried these in the store. The L fit, but was definitely too large, loose and slipping from his shoulders/chest on tightest cinch for all straps. The M/L fits, snugly around the girth, but he's on the furthest length of the buckles. If you are unable to test out in store and trying to figure size, my boy is a good sized Labrador Retriever, 80-82 lbs but super lean, deep chested, taller (not stocky at all.) The two point buckles are nice for putting it on dog. My dog learned to step into his harness, first foot, next foot. It's cute, but this harness is easier for me, especially if have purse or back pack on or anything in my hands. I will keep other style harness for dog park because this style would not be as effective in "removing" dog from a pile of dogs, in case trouble is brewing (if you know what I mean.) Also, it is a nice looking harness and I will keep it strictly for walking. I recommend it.

This is a good training harness and much better than a head halter or prong collar. It helps my boy pull less while still letting him sniff and explore. It is very easily adjustable and fits as expected. I like the neoprene pad on the stomach band as it prevents rubbing on his skin.

Ma chienne ne tire plus avec ce harnais et la couleur lui va bien.

Works really well. My dog always pulls in her harness even on the front clip so I thought I would try this and she didn’t pull at all, it was incredible. She walked nicely at my side, very nice change. I tried it on my other dog who is very reactive and she didn’t mind it at all. I walked her around my yard to see how she liked it and she responded very well to the harness as well. It seems well made, it’s very easy to put on and take off and neither of my dogs minded wearing it. Would definitely recommend.

Alles prima, sitzt, passt, wackelt und hat Luft.

Resistente y con un acolchado que da comodidad a mi perro.

Overall a good product but the design has certain flaws which should be fixed. Since the loop is in front, it gets really difficult when my dog decides to switch sides all of a sudden. The plastic snap lock/buckle is pretty thick and in case of my dog it rubs against his armpit causing redness on the soft skin.
