The pencil leads a nice medium soft level so that they don't break and crumble easily but are also not too hard which can be hard to apply to paper. The shape of the pencils casing is hexagonal which is important as these don't roll off the table like round cased pencils do. The wooden case of these pencils are made from natural poplar. I tried with all I had to get them to color and the lead is so light you can barely see it. The pencils are shaped funny and hard to hold and they are so hard that they cannot take Vaseline or oil for blending. They are already used, so returning them is not an option, but how would I have known how they would work unless I got a chance to try them out? They are not worth the money. The seller was great though. They came in a great package, and were on time and in great condition.
