D'Andrea Radex RDX 351 Guitar Picks (RDX351 1.00MM)

Like Ultex but warmer & stickier. 0.75mm good balance for strumming with some picking
These are similar to Dunlop’s Ultex picks, but are different in two ways (versus an Ultex of similar thickness): they have a warmer sound, and somewhat more flex. Also, I find them to stick a little better to the thumb - not like a gel or acrylic pick, but more than a nylon or cellulose pick. I appreciate that as my hands get firmer and drier in the winter, which makes it harder to hold onto picks generally. Nice for acoustic strumming on a bright sounding guitar, though still too thick to start out with in my opinion for beginners.

Ripe, round and golden
For my taste, celluloid sets the standard for tone-- round and full, yet detailed. Another touchstone would be the D'Andrea Pro Plec, which sounds very much like celluloid. The big problem with both celluloid and with Pro-Plecs is that they wear very quickly. Some folks like to use'em until they wear past the point of roughness; I can't tolerate the roughness long enough to get to the smooth waters on the other side, so I toss 'em.I'm talking jazz here, but acoustic players will also find these to their liking. The Radex picks do what they say-- they wear extremely well--faster than a Blue Chip, but hey, they cost on the order of a buck rather than the $35 a Blue Chip will set you back. Here's what the ad copy doesn't tell you-- they sound very much like celluloid, i.e. ripe, round and golden. And the finish is wonderful, thoroughly lapped and rounded. Good stuff!Update Feb 2020: Though these take a while to start wearing noticeably, the wear area is rough once it starts. The Dunlop Tortex 1.14mm start wearing more quickly, but are smoother as they wear. The Radex are another flavor, a little brighter but without the air and spit of Tortex.

Beef up A Taylor. Between ultex and primetone.
Fits between ultex & primetone, bringing out the bass and miss without adding clackiness or brightness. Feels great and not as stiff as a gator. Will beef up a Taylor.

Very durable and nice tone.
I purchased six of these (1 mm) last month after getting tired of heavy picks. I’m pretty impressed . They have a great tone and seem super durable . They have a little “give” to them in that thickness, and are well suited both for single lines and chordal playing . Will buy again for sure.

Pro Plec Tone In A Thinner Pick
I have had trouble finding the Pro Plec tone (I use the 651) in a thinner pick. The search has ended. When the Pro Plec feels too thick at times, the Radex is the perfect compromise.
