New York Collapse is an in-world fictionalized companion to one of the biggest video game releases of 2016: Tom Clancy's The Division from Ubisoft. Within this discarded survivalist field guide, written before the collapse, lies a mystery—a handwritten account of a woman struggling to discover why New York City fell. The keys to unlocking the survivor's full story are hidden within seven removable artifacts, ranging from a full-city map to a used transit card. Retrace her steps through a destroyed urban landscape and decipher her clues to reveal the key secrets at the heart of this highly anticipated game. Review: Best video game supplement is an analog story/puzzle book :) - This book is a great companion to the game, but even on its own has some value (especially so if your are a NYC resident). Structured as an in-game publication set in the world of Tom Clancy's The Division video game, it not only serves as a useful survival guide in the world of the game, but in our world as well. The survival and preparedness tips here are drawn from plausible scenarios in our world, which makes the reading far more compelling if you let it draw you in and contemplate the possibilities. The book comes with a lot of physical inserts such as a map of NYC with notes, a bus pass, and more. Each of these serves as a clue, part of a puzzle, or enhancement to the story of the game. And this is where the book really shines. It presents the story of April Kelleher, a married woman gifted the survival guide, who then proceeds to live out one of the nightmare scenarios presented in the guide. In the form of April's writings in the margins of the guide, we follow her tale of what happened to result in the NYC portrayed the The Division video game. I believe this story is good enough to stand on its own in many ways, so I don't think you'd be disappointed if you read this, yet never played the game. April writes over time in this book, using it as a sort of journal of her experiences. Her handwriting is presented in different inks and pencils, and the book is artificially weathered in appearance, but actually smythe sewn for a durable binding. Note these are all printing effects and the end result is a "survival guide"/in-game fiction journal that looks great and yet should survive repeated reading and thumbing through. This is even as its in-world fiction dictates it should have, the journal having survived so long. In fact, re-reading and thumbing through you will have to do, not only to follow the multi-layered story that unfolds physically on the pages, but also because the book incorporates puzzles and clues that really complete the presentation of both the story in this book and the function of companion to the game. Overall it is just an excellent example of a true multi-media presentation of The Division's story. You do not need this to enjoy the Division nor do I think you need the Division to enjoy this, but it enhances the experience so much. If you like story :) Some NOTES: This story is NOT the story that takes place in The Division game but Another story that takes place in the same world of the game and is part of the overall story. This is not a game guide in the sense of the guides that spell out all the stuff in the game so you can find it. It does present puzzles and clues to stuff you can find in game, but it is its own thing, and not like the strategy or survival guides you can buy from Prima or Brady etc. It is as its covers states, an interactive adventure, and a damn good one at that. This is a real, quality production both in the sense of the content and in the actual quality of the physical book. I could go on much more about the quality of the story, quality of the survival info, or tell you about the puzzles, etc. but I think that would all be spoiler-ish and I think you'll be pleasantly surprised as you learn just how much is packed into this 176 page volume. Very pleasantly... Review: Best game world expansion in a long time - I haven't finished the book yet. But I'm really enjoying it. I didn't know anything about it when it arrived. I thought it was just another cheesy game novelization like the Doom or Mass effect books but no... this is something else entirely. Non-spoiler premise: April was given a basic survival guide by her husband as a "joke". The printed pages of New York Collapse is the survival guide. As real world events begin to unfold it turns out April's pandemic survival guide is uncannily accurate. April begins to use the margins as her diary during her struggles to survive and make sense of her situation. The more she flips back and forth through the book reading and leaving notes the more she notices that this "theoretical" survival guide is more closely linked to the events around her than can be rationally explained. Each page is super detailed with notes and pictures from different days and weeks as she flipped back and forth through the survival guide over and over again. I decided early on to try and follow April's story chronologically. Or as close as I could, anyways. I wanted to discover the story as she did, one journal entry at a time. April's story is not written in sequence but it can be pieced together close enough by following which pen she was using during which time period. First I read the book as a survival guide, doing my best to ignore all of the scribbles and notes. That way I understand the book as it would appear when April first received it. Next I read through the book reading only April's first impressions - the black ink. This is April using the book as a literal survival guide as she wonders at the strange coincidence of the accuracy of her book to the world around her. Now, I'm reading the blue ink which is where she starts to see conspiracy instead of coincidence. Reading it this way really gives me a sense of her growing desperation, frustration, and paranoia. In short... it's flipping awesome. The great thing about this book is that there are so many different ways to enjoy it. Absorb it all at once, piece it apart as I have, or just flip through and enjoy each page separately. Best game tie in I've ever interacted with.

Best game supplement and mystery book ever
To say this book is addicting and has brought me back into the game would be an understatement. I loved the survival guide entries in the game, and when I discovered it was also a physical book, I had to have it. When I discovered that book actually had physical evidence, puzzles, and different points of interest you could find in the game, it made me salivate a little. The book is worn, each page with a different smudge, stain, or fold. The eye for detail has been incredible to make this as realistic as possible to a book that has survived months in the apocalypse. The guide is filled with puzzles, with the owner of the book giving little hints, but not giving it away. You also hear of her journey through NYC in the margins as she tries to discover a conspiracy surrounding her husband. You can see glimpses of her in the video game doing the same. I haven't fully read the book, but with all the puzzles, I do know I'll be paging through this a few times to see what I can unlock. I've also started making a list of places to visit based on the diary, though sadly a lot of them are outside the playable zone. Excited to figure out everything this book holds, as it gives me a new view of the game as well.

Sooo Cool!!! Game companion puzzle book comes with what !?! Reveiw from a non-bibliophile
So far really cool. Just know that this book works as a companion to the Tom Clancy game The Division. Playing the game gives you more context into what is happening in the book and vice-versa. At its base the book serves as a survival guide for urban catastrophe, so there are tips on how purify water through distillation, what items to put in a "go" bag and other real life survival techniques. I don't really think that reading the book on its own without playing the game would be beneficial other than having a survival guide with a bunch of scribbles in the margins. However, there's the rub. Having a real life urban survival guide then to also have a compelling survival diary of a woman in post-virus New York makes it a really good read. I am afraid to finish the book, cause at this point I want to find April in the game. When you start to read you find out that the book was a gag gift from a woman's husband. The woman April Kelleher, now is using this gag gift to help her survive what the book describes as a TEOTWAWKI (the end of the world as we know it) situation. Along with her day to day diary using the books described survival techniques, you solve embedded puzzles left by the author of the base book. Obviously, you will use this information to further your progress in the video game. If the survival guide and story wasn't enough, the book is made to look and feel weathered and worn. It also comes with seven physical add-ons (ie transit card that serves as a puzzle cipher) to improve immersion into the story and solve puzzles. Beyond an outside the box approach for game progression, its a nice peripheral the developers made for an owner of their game. If you have the game this is a must buy.

SPOILER ALERT! oh what a pleasant surprise!
ok, i have to be completely honest with this one... it blew my mind when i unboxed it and removed the wrap, it smelled like a hospital! and OH MY GOD every part of the game, every part of the story, specially with the rogue agent and the cleaners piling up bodies in certain parts of manhattan came to my mind when i smelled it, i felt like i was reading a real doctors note with some soldier notes about what they saw, what they experienced, i mean, the makers of the game + the makers of the book completely nailed this one with me! it hooked me even more with the story! by the time the second game hits the market my mind is playing me games about what really happened and who spread the virus in the first place, i'm thinking that probably the government is selling smoke because they as we all do, are unaware of who may have spread it and with what end, probably global market crash to buy more stocks in short sales to earn more cash in a shorter amount of time? WHO KNOWS! and if this is true and using the world as their lab to test the viability of manipulating markets and viruses, who also knows where all this can end! rich people getting richer and also dead? or not dead but disabled? or some poor man who got played but someone who tried to make his/her way to the top of the food chain?... so many questions unanswered, so many thoughts without sense, so many lives lost *probably* in vain

It's a nice artifact to go along with the game
It's a nice artifact to go along with the game. However, it's not really a novel to go along with the book. I was expecting almost a stand alone story in some sense, but what it is is a guide to survive an apocalypse that someone from the world of the Division got their hands on and used this guide to survive. Then, this person made notes throughout the book about how each step in the guide was actually helpful or not. Bunch of different side stories that applied to each chapter. Great idea, but its more about the novelty than this being a legit novel. However, I do love the game so - as a book i'd give it a 3, but as a great complimentary piece to the game i'm giving it a 4.

Great companion to the game.
An awesome book that adds to the lore of The Division. You get a new perspective on the events that took place in New York during the outbreak.

Must-Have for Any Agent Out There!
I like the style in which it is written and quality of paper in this book. Honestly feels like it fell out of the game and landed in my lap! Also, pretty sure it came with some other goodies I treasure to this day!

Sensacional!
A qualidade do livro é excepcional. Ponto negativo? Bom, nenhum...
