Is this recommended for a studio apartment?

Depends on how big your studio apt. is. Check the measurements from the seller against your studio measurements and decide. it seats 2 comfortably, 4 a little squishy. I could see it doubling as a work desk too if space limted.

Sturdy . I have no issues with this on my carpeted floor

Don’t know where manufactured but for the price it is more than worth it. Sturdy and very nice looking

What is the tops made if? Is it wood, plastic, or something else, the table top & bench?

It's a MDF (Medium Density Fiberboard) be careful setting really hot stuff on it... the top seems to be a plastic wood coating printed to look like wood. And it won't hold up under high heat. I just got mine and for the price, it is a good temporary table to get you by.
