How long does this cologne last?

This version of The One  is an EDP or Eau de Parfum, which generally has a concentration of 15% - 20%.  This particular EDP will generally last a few hours and then sit closer to the skin for a few hours more. The One also makes a EDT or Eau de Toilette, which has a weaker concentration of between 5% - 15%.  How long it lasts depends on a number of factors.  If you spray some on your clothes, like your undershirt or the collar of your shirt, it will last much longer. If you use aftershave balm before applying to your neck, or body lotion before applying to your neck or wrists; it will also last longer, because it moisturizes your skin and the fragrance will last longer than on dry skin.  Another factor is the projection of the fragrance.  Some project very far from the person and others sit closer to the skin. Some products are also released as a Parfum. which is the strongest concentration  you can typically buy.  Chanel's  Bleu de Chanel is available as a Parfum, Eau de Parfum or Eau de Toilette for example. Some fragrances are also available as an Eau de Cologne, which is generally the weakest concentration with between 2% and 4%.  You will also find body mists of some fragrances, which are even lighter than an Eau de Cologne. Overall this does not last as long as some Eau de Parfum fragrances, but it also isn't meant to be to overpowering or fill the room, so it lasts a long while, but sits closer to the skin.

Why is the scent totally gone is less than 30 minutes, while the edt version purchased from a department store lasted many hours???

U probably got a fake one as u have to make sure when purchasing online u buy from authorized retailers otherwise these 3rd party retailers sometimes will give u knockoffs instead of original. I got mine shipped from Amazon.com directly so it was legit and lasts 6 hrs or more, hope this helps for future purchases
