Mild citrus smell, lathers great, effective on killing fleas and not the budget! My grail shampoo!
Iโm almost embarrassed that I had to order this. I had a slight flea infestation thanks to โLe Dogโ. In 30 years of dog & cat ownership I have never had to deal with fleas and ticks. Fast forward to 2023, Iโm now living adjacent to a dense wooded area. Stupid me, I thought those expensive monthly chew tablets prescribed by the vet for fleas & ticks took care of just that, fleas and ticks. As they say, โitโs complicatedโ! As a pet owner, I feel like Iโve let them down. Believe it or not, I never saw a flea on my dog, it was found on the indoor cat that never goes outside! My dog is a dachshund/beagle mix so he has a smooth, very dense, tight double undercoat of brown black fur to hide in, but the catโฆ he has a fine coat of light ginger colored fur so it couldnโt hide and got caught โsneakingโ about. Long story short, after a quick call to the vet, all the pets needed capstar administered which would kill fleas immediately BUT not the eggs. Unfortunately, we are talking about giving reluctant 20lb male cats a pill they would rather not have. With one dog and 4 cats in tow we headed to the vet to have the โflea killerโ pill administered. Meanwhile, pest control came to bomb the house & spray the yard while on our little day trip to the vet. The next step was washing/sanitizing all beddings & linen and vacuuming the floors with the dog bath last. Since I was already familiar with the Veterinary Formula product line and it being paraben free and no skin reactions on the dog, I ordered their Flea & Tick shampoo. The 16oz bottle guarantees lโll get more than a couple of baths out of it. I also needed to strike a balance of a reliable brand that was effective in killing fleas, was not harmful or irritate my dogโs sensitivities, and was affordable. This was it. I needed it to kill any adult stragglers, immature fleas or newly hatched fleas that the pill did not. My first โsniffโ impression is the shampoo does NOT have a strong chemical odor, but more of a mild citrusy scent (better than what I was expecting). It does a great job of lathering up making it easy to work into the undercoat and reach any fleas living there. There was no skin irritation, burning, or allergy to using the shampoo and it left no residue. It felt more like a sudsy conditioner. I waited closer to 8 minutes before rinsing out the shampoo. That stuff is fantastic! Oh-kay, he didnโt smell as sweet as his oatmeal shampoo BUTโฆ he had โsalon softโ and silky fur! Itโs actually better than the conditioner I have been using. As for fleas? I may have seen a spec or two in the bathtub. In all likelihood, the dog was used as a flea taxi into the house & cats. Up until now, the indoor cats were not on any flea prevention, but that has changed as well as getting flea combed. As they say, โwhere there is one, there is manyโ. While the shampoo was effective in killing & removing current fleas on Lucky Lou, it had to be used in conjunction with the other flea prevention treatments above to get ahead of the flea-eggs crazy life-cycle. A second flea bath was given 10 days out as a precaution. Did you know one flea can lay 50 eggs? Worse, one female flea in 60 days can leave you with 20,000 if not treated. -The constant spray, wash, vacuum, of carpet, bedding & linens and the once monthly flea oral & topical treatments now has house & pets โflea-freeโ for 82 days! Iโm also pretty sure the cooler weather has helped to control the yard population as well as planting plenty of mint about. Overall, 5 stars! Neither dog nor cats have fleas! This is my grail of flea shampoo!

Works but some fleas arenโt dead
It was super satisfying to see a dozen or so fleas wash off my dog into the drain. Only thing is, not all of them died on contact with the shampoo, and Imade the mistake of pulling out the dog hair from the drain which had fleas stuck in it and leaving it for about a half hour on the edge of the bathtub. When I returned, I saw a bunch of very dazed and very unhappy fleas stumbling back out of the hair clot onto the edge of the bathtub. Some of them hd already recovered enough to jump. Of course, I immediately dunked them under hot water and down the drain, but it is something to be aware of. I didnโt use gloves when washing my dog figuring that whatever goes on my dog can go on me or else I wonโt be using it. The shampoo feels kind of lightly stingy at first but then it just lathers nicely and nothing happened to my hands from the contact. I put a ring of it around the dogโs neck first then washed the rest of him. I didnโt see any fleas on his head which was neat because during a regular shower there were a bunch of them. So in short this shampoo works, doesnt seem to upset skin (dog or human) and i will use it from time to time to get rid of the occasional flea swarms we get.

Works great
I am a big fan of this shampoo! My dog has sensitive skin and his itching is greatly improved. It does kill most of the fleas, a couple were still crawling. It doesn't smell noxious or perfumey, just really clean and leaves his fur super soft.

Good shampoo for fleas
I purchased this shampoo after noticing my dog picked up some fleas from playing with family dogs. It lathered well and smelt good and seemed to do a good job at cleaning. It did not irritate my dogs skin or cause any reactions or discomfort. Very easy to use and read instructions. I did leave it in for the suggested time and then washed it thoroughly and noticed some dead fleas in the tub. I believe you get a good amount for the price and it will last long, I do however think one bath is not enough to kill or remove all fleas and ticks so stay consistent!

Good Replacement for the Sergeantโs Shampoo I Used to Buy
I used to use Sergeantโs flea and tick shampoo, which was always my favorite, but it has become really difficult to find anymore. This Veterinary Formula shampoo had a lot of good reviews, so I decided to give it a try on my cats. My cats are outdoor cats, although fortunately they don't really have much of a flea problem. The shampoo worked well, was easy to use, and I was especially happy with how nice their coats looked and felt afterward. It is made for both cats and dogs and is soap and paraben free, which I also liked. Overall, I was happy with the results and would buy it again. The real test came the next day, their coats looked great and both cats were running around in a good mood like nothing had happened. Anyone who has ever given a cat a bath knows that being forgiven that quickly is a pretty good endorsement.

It does kills but leave more than 5 min otherwise it won't kill all of it
It works! It kills em but not all of them... there is a big difference in my cats... but for better results leave the shampoo more than 5 min...

Great product
This stuff works! Two cats got fleas out of freaking nowhere! They couldnโt stop itching or sleep. One had flea dirt and I had enough. I bathed them and washed everything in sight with very hot water and bleach cleaned all surfaces and floors and I think weโre good to go. Smells nice and didnโt irritate them. Iโm going to give them another shower in 7 days as instructed.

stray kitten
this little kitten was dumped at my house because people see me taking care of the strays and think that is ok. no bigger than my hand. not infested with fleas but definitely had fleas and ticks. I removed the ticks with a tool and bought animal husbandry gloves it case it went defcon salon in the bath. i bought head gear that ended up being for humans and not cats. this shampoo killed everything and as I dried the kitten the dead bugs fell off. washed it out side and it actually took the bath really well. as hard as I tried I still got a wee lil bit of soap in it's eye. no water in the ears swabbed with a little soap though the day it was dumped i kept hearing it crying my son saw it hiding under a truck and cop rode by and tried to catch it but couldn't i said I will get it and being it to the cop but when I went to drop it off nobody knows nothing. going to take it to the pound last weekend but i had to work & couldnt get there. I done named it tippy tupe - orange tipped ears nose and tail. I think it's a boy but I dont know for sure. i had lyme once and I dont want it again so I spray me down with bug spray and wear gloves before I even think about picking up one of the ferals but we're pretty cool. i will give it a couple days before adding the 6 month flea and tick stuff for cats so it can build up some natural oils on its fur. all clean and soft and purring and smells good. now it keeps pulling my hand into it to hold it. this kitty is too happy right now just a purring and nestling
