Men's Moab 2 GTX Hiking Shoe

Something very wrong
My order history says I ordered size 12 men. The tag inside the shoes says size 12 mens. But these are not size 12 mens. I have a second photo of my old moab's in a 12 and these new ones. Obviously not the same size. I literally can't fit my feet in these. What the hell happened? I'll return them but Amazon, please take this particular pair out of rotation

Not the same as the original Moab GTX
This is the 5th pair of Moabs I have owned. The first 3 were the original moab GTX. The fit perfect. I have now ordered the Moab 2 waterproof and Moab 2 GTX. The both are more narrow and not as long as the old version. These were my favorite shoes for hiking and around the town in the winter. I now have to find a new brand.

Need to fix the size.
Usually, my feet are fit with Merrell 8.5, they're even fit with Moab 2, but with this GTX version thing gets weird. First of all, my toes touch the tip of the shoes, so when walking it's quite hurt. Secondly, the shoes are too wide, even when my toes are not totally fit, it's wide already. Along with durable material, this problem makes the shoes become loose, after walking just a few mins, I noticed the lace was loosened. I love Merrell but I think they should do a better job with Moab 2 GTX.Peace.

Best Everyday Shoe on the Market!
I have owned Merrell MOAB shoes for the past 10 years (3 different pairs), and will continue to buy them for as long as they make them without changes. They wear extremely well, have excellent support and comfort, and fit my foot superbly. This review is for the Gortex version of the shoe. I also ordered and tried at the same time the "Waterproof" version of the shoe and it fit too snugly and was heavier than this Gortex shoe. I sent the Waterproof one back, and kept this one that I now wear every day. Wonderful shoe! Try a pair and treat yourself to real comfort. These are not waterproof in the sense that you can go through standing water, but will keep your feet dry through damp conditions. Also stays pretty comfortable in hot weather.

Poor quality and construction
Very disappointed in the longevity of this product and can only give this boot 2 stars due to significant quality and wearability issues. I have purchased and enjoyed the comfort of many Merrell hiking shoes over the years, however, this was the first one I ordered with GORE-TEX. I am a medium width size 12 and the boot fit, arch support and right out of the box comfort is great. No break-in period needed. Unfortunately, they barely made it through six months before the upper started separating from the sole (both shoes) and the rubber toe piece started degrading at the bend point of the toe….. exactly the place where a boot like this should be strongest!! Seems to me that such poor construction completely defeats the purpose of purchasing a more expensive boot with the GORE-TEX waterproof membrane. It's too bad Merrell can't build a shoe that lasts longer and shame on Merrell for selling a $140 (Retail) hiking boot that lasts less than a single season. Save your hard-earned money and buy something from another maker like Vasque, Oboz, Keen or Solomon. I’ll bet that even comparable Hi-Tec or Karrimor brand hiking boots would last longer at half the price. There are plenty of other options out there that are of higher quality and last!

Love this shoe
Love this shoe. I have had both the waterproof version and the non. The waterproof version does get a little hot and doesn’t let the perspiration out very well, but both versions are the most comfortable shoe I have ever owned. I buy a new pair every year. Only because I wear them so much and the soles wear out. During the summer I put over 125 miles a week on them. Not including weekends. Not sure any shoe can out last that.

Oh, the SMELL!! It's HORRIBLE!!
Been happily wearing this exact series for years. This is still the GORE-TEX version made in Viet Nam. Fits true, and looks identical to prior pairs. BUT, THE ODOR/SMELL of these is HORRIFIC! I have no idea how the manufacturing process may have changed or possibly where they've been warehoused/stored, but there's a VERY offensive smell that is not getting any better. Going to give them a couple more days to air out, but if it doesn't improve these are going to be returned. I can't stand the smell, and certainly I can't wear them anywhere there will be other people around. Yuck! Also discovered this pair, unlike any of the identical pairs before, make a sound with each step like a rubber boot full of water. Disturbing and hysterical at the same time.*** UPDATE *** Returned for refund. Smell never went away.

Truly waterproof
My husband works in the elements and climbs up and down equipment and does a lot of walking in his job. He looks for good traction for the climbing, comfort for the walking and waterproof for being in the rain at times. This is the only shoe that he has found that meets all of these requirements. Others say they are waterproof or water resistant but the ones that are the GTX (Gore-tex) are the only ones he has found that truly keep his feet dry in the rain. They also last longer than regular tennis shoes that he used for work in the past. This is the third pair he has purchased, the first two lasting about a year each. He normally wears a 10 and a 1/2 so I am inclined to say these run a little big.

Magnificent Merrell's - again ! My 6th pair over many years.
I am a long time 'Merrell fan' that always chooses Merrell's that have the vibram soul, as historically it's the soul in footwear that usually lets me down.Size wise, I know this fits me, as I tried it on in a shop on the high street. I have a broader foot, so Merrell's have always suited me in this area too.It sounds silly, bit unfortunately, sizing really only is a guide today, as depending on the manufacturer, I take shoes sized from 10 - 12, so, don't make assumptions, unless you specifically know the manufacturer and model of shoe you are purchasing.I purchased these for a recent trip to Iceland, and together with some reasonably thick woollen socks, they were perfect, with the added knowledge that should it rain or snow, the Gore-Tex lining would keep my feet dry. The Gore-Tex wasn't put to the test on this occasion, so that will have to wait for another time on these particular pair of shoes. As with all 'big name' manufacturers these days, one always has to stay alert. Long time fans and die hard users of many well known and often expensive brands are reporting the same thing - deteriorating quality and longevity ! (This usually, but not always, coincidences with a change of manufacturing facility/process or country that goes hand in hand with the deteriorating product?)I tend to purchase several pairs of Merrell's each few years, one pair for more better, casual going out (which lasts me for many years), one pair for the regular walking, every day out and about I do, and believe me, I live in them and wear them to the maximum.(I believe if buying a quality pair of shoes, they should be lasting more than 12 months !)I basically then tend to wear them until they get relegated to garden duties, then the bin.Having experienced both the non Gore-Tex and Gore-Tex version's over the years, I now just stick to the Gore-Tex versions, as it doesn't take much of a shower or very long in some wet grass, for the non Gore-Tex versions to soak through, but that's just my preference and opinion.Until my experience says differently, I am sticking with Merrell's.I hope this review has been of some help?

Save yourself some trouble and go a size up
I bought these boots my normal size 9. They were too small from when I first put them on. So I sent them back and ordered size 9.5. These fitted well when I put them on and for the first 1-2 hours of walking. I also ran in them for 30 mins. All fine. However, after 2 hours our feet naturally swell a little and my toes started crunching against the end of the boots. Now I’ve used them 2-3 times and can’t take them back so I’ll have to sell them on eBay as used and I’ve ordered size 10 now. They are great boots but avoid the hassle and try one size up!

Very poor for Gore-Tex, leaking after a few months!
I have had several pairs of Merrell Gore-Tex shoes previously but I have to say these are very disappointing. The bottom line is they are just not waterproof at all!!I have had these just 4 months now and on a daily basis in any wet grass for the past month my toes are soaked, that's not right for Gore-Tex, previous pairs have gone at least a couple of years before any signs of leakage appeared. These are essentially still brand new but appear unable to keep my toes dry even in wet grass walking the dog, I can only guess I have a bad pair or the Gore-Tex used is not of an acceptable quality.Unfortunately i will have to look at other brands going forward which is a shame as the Merrell sizing works well for me.

I have wide feet so these were easily the most comfortable
Bought these for long distance walking and general use. Spent a lot of time reading reviews and trying on shoes in the same category. I have wide feet so these were easily the most comfortable. I'm a size 9 and found them to be true to size. The padding around the ankle is definitely a lot better than any other shoe I tried. Build quality is also superior to most other shoes however the heel cup is very roomy and requires the laces to be pulled very tight to prevent heel rub on the stiching line inside the heel cup which left me with a lot of tension over the top of my foot. Merrell claim "out of the box comfort" which is true, I walked 7 miles the first time I wore them but they do still require a bit of time to soften up also the footbed in my opinion is very rough and created a lot of hot spots in various areas of the shoe. The addition of superfeet insoles has elimiated the hot spots and also tightend up the heel cup a little. After a fair breaking in period the toe box has softened to the point that a lot of it has started rubbing across the top of my toes not helped by the fact the goretex lining is very loose around this area. There appears to be plenty of traction although I've only really worn them on decent surfaced paths. All in a pretty decent pair of shoes but not 100% the comfort I expected.

very warm, not reccommened for hot days.
These are very warm. During the warm days you can feel your foots were burning. However these shoes are very comfortable, especially if someone has a wide and high feet.Unfortunately after 6months of moderate use, material on the front (in front to the toes) split.I sent them back.
