I have noticed that because I rarely remove it, it will eventually get a little funky, but washing with soap and letting it air dry from time to time takes care of that. It's not a deal breaker since the need to wear the watch in a way that doesn't cause a skin rash is more important than the tedium of having to wash the band to keep it smelling fresh. The material is almost a Paracord like texture. So quite sturdy.
