Orchard Books I Love My Mummy Board

Mums...know your place....
Some time ago, my wife bought me the 'I Love my daddy' variant of this book, and for her birthday I decided to return the favour.'I love my daddy' is a great book which my daughter and I enjoy reading. Like most dads, the book seems to be written about my own personal exploits - sneaky snacks, fun in the park, shoulder rides...it's a fun book that reminds us of the good times we have together, and it is still a regular read.Unfortunately, 'I love my mummy' seems to revel in the same style of stereotypical parenting - mummy is great because she wipes my bum, washes my face etc. Whilst the book is still nicely illustrated, it doesn't seem to have the charm or appeal of the 'daddy' book, and isn't really as appreciated by mother or child. As it is, they've decided to stick with 'Where the wild mums are' as being more reflective of modern mothering!Another slight note - the 'I love my daddy' board book which I have is nicely bound with a semi-padded front cover. This variant is just a straight forward board book, two-thirds of the size.

Nowhere near as lovely as "I love my daddy"
The illustrations are sweet but I was really disappointed with the actual text. I love my Daddy is fun - they go on the swings, cook together, sing and dance etc. In comparison most pages in this are not endearing -mummy wipes a grubby nose, helps them "do a wee" and tells the little kid to not "scream and shout" when they go out....not quite so nice to read together.

Lovely book
A lovely book that my wife and daughter still love. My daughter learnt the last word of every line due to the simple rhyming and its a pleasure to read. My only slight concern would be that this and the Daddy book confirm to gender stereotypes a little (Daddy works, mummy doesnt, mummy does the shopping and sings songs in the car, daddy plays on swings and rough and tumble, plus breaks the rules when mummy's not at home). But it's not a big deal.

Perfect for me and my daughter
Such a lovely book and really mirrors my relationship with my daughter: car rides, fun in the bath, reading books in my bed, helping her wee on the loo, making her laugh, wiping her tears, singing songs! Love it๐
