Well it sounds like you bf is your worst nightmare. He should go to AA and get some help. And help he needs before, he bunches a hole in you, instead of drywall. Yes this will work on fixing the hole, but first , get drywall mesh that is self adhering. And use it as directed, on the package. And then apply the paste as directed

Can you nail or screw into the patch to hang a towel rack ?

Yes I used an anchor and hanged a towel rack from it. Use the mesh which comes with the kit. Very good product.

Will this work on a panel wall?

Best use on drywall. But If you’re patching something small, it should be ok.
