Does it look transparent on the face or does it leave a white cast?

It looks transparent if you don't put on too much. Best to put on in small dabs first, and rub in. If you put too much on, it's hard to get the whiteness to go away, especially if you have a darker complexion. Also, I found that even if I did a good job of rubbing it in and it was invisible at first, if you sweat and have darker skin, it will turn a little white. Again, especially if you put a lot on.

I don’t use it for ocean or beach use, but it does work in keeping you in the hot sun 3 to 4 in the mountains and deserts. I have found other 100+ spf sunscreen products to not work as well that were reef free.

Does this sunscreen go on before or after moisturizer?

Non-mineral sunscreens like this should be applied before a moisturizer. Mineral sunscreens sit on top of the skin without absorbing fully; non-mineral sunscreens must be absorbed into the skin to be effective.
