I have arthritis and am clumsy, so I am a frequent user of cold packs. Awhile back, I decided if there was anything in this world that I'd be comfortable using the cheap version of, this was surely it. That's when I learned the difference. I ordered two cheapo packs from two different manufacturers. One is basically a big chunk of ice surrounded by plastic. There's no give to it at all, so unless you are using it on a totally flat body part, such as the middle of your back, you either have to choose which area hurts worst and arrange yourself accordingly, or else shift often to see that your whole ankle, wrist, leg, whatever is getting the benefit. The second cheapo pack was slightly better in that I could get a bit of flexibility, but when frozen it is SOOOO cold that I am forced to run around the house looking for something to put over it. A washcloth or towel is too thick. Finally--spoiler alert--I discovered I could use cheapo #2 if I dressed the cold pack in a pair of cotton granny panties. Next! Finally I was forced to realize that my injuries deserve something more effective than the bare minimum. I still had one like this one that dated back many years, and it is unquestionably the best, but the dog got it and ate off a corner, and the gel started oozing onto the bedspread and yeah. It had to go. I am so glad I decided to suck it up and order another ColPak. I have Achilles Tendinitis and this one is exactly the right size. It comes out of the freezer cold and flexible, but not too cold to use directly on my skin. There are economies, and then there are false economies. If you are hurting, it's better to just get it right the first time around.

It does exactly what its supposed to do. The only thing, i wish it would stay cold a bit longer. but im just gonna buy another one and rotate them. really satisfied with this purchase. *update* edit-1 about 4months later it broke and this grey substance started leaking from it. i took one star away bc it didnt last as long as i had hoped. im going to purchase another one once this one becomes unuseable, but i wish they lasted longer. maybe the next one will. still a great deal and really cold edit 2 gave a star back i bought a new one and that was broken at the seams , and they replaced it the next day. so we’ll see how long this lasts. if its at least 6months its worth it
