But, strangely, in a lot of ways it is vastly more devastating and intense than the Death of Superman event that kicked off this whole saga. Though the volume is primarily about the triumphant return of Superman, it comes at a huge cost--the deaths of millions of innocents. Casual DC comics readers like me are probably vaguely aware that Green Lantern's city, Coast City, suffers a horrible fate in this storyline, but it is really something else to read it unfold. The Return of Superman himself is important, yes, but it almost dwarfs in comparison to the tragedy that befalls Coast City before he comes back and manages to save the day. It's both brutal and brilliant. Superman's return would have been something to celebrate already no matter what, but his return and meting of justice against one of his most vile pretenders is made all the more satisfying because of the stakes and losses felt before his return. Really cathartic to see the Last Son of Krypton return to his rightful place, and a brilliant end to this storyline (again, excluding one more volume that acts as a coda).

Enjoyed the Death of Superman and was really interested in this as it details the Man of Steel’s rise from the ashes however the cover is the only decent thing about this product. Art style is horrible and the story is way too slow as it’s constantly focusing on the other “Supermen” and not Clark Kent’s recovery and his return.
