I'm not going to heavily break down the nutritional benefits of this product - because you likely wouldn't be looking at this product if you haven't already at least read an article or two about Chia seeds and their benefits - if not conducted more substantial personal research. What the Nutiva brand offers is a high quality (organic), reasonably-priced product. These seeds are slightly larger than some of the other brands I've shopped. These are marketed as "black" seeds - why they market both black and white seeds is unknown to me because I haven't found any advantage of one colored seed over another - which essentially makes this marketing point irrelevant (at least to me). The "black" seed product isn't 100% black seed either - there's a mix of seed colors; mostly black, but plenty of grey, brownish, off-white and white seeds in the mix. I've been making what I call "seed juice" for a couple years now. I hydrate the seeds for about 10-15 minutes and then mix in my favorite organic juice. Chia seeds give me a noticeable energy boost in the morning, that lasts all day. I would caution individuals who consume large amounts of caffeine to reduce their intake before consuming Chia seeds, because the energy boost has proven to be synergistic. In fact, I made the mistake of consuming multiple doses of Chia seeds (mixed with juice) over the course of a day, and found it almost impossible to go to sleep that night - symptoms similar to a near caffeine overdose I experienced in college. None of the nausea, but all of the insomnia and jitters. So I recommend using the same reasonable consumption guidelines as with caffeine: moderate consumption and avoid consumption after lunch. I have noticed since supplementing my diet with Chia seeds, that my body fat percentage has decreased by 7% and my muscle index has increased by approximately 5%. Changing nothing else in my diet, my weight has gone from 168lbs to 153lbs over 2 years. Chia has helped me control my weight, likely due to the increase in fiber and protein, and my appetite has moderated. If you're looking for a crash diet - this likely won't help much. If you're looking for a long-term supplement that will help increase your energy levels while helping you slowly and permanently reduce your body weight - then this is a smart addition to a longterm plan and commitment to improve your overall health and wellbeing.

I had heard that Chia seeds were very healthy and they contained a lot of good things. I was scooping them in smoothies, and yogurt. Since that time, I did more research and found some interesting info. They are full of omega 3's. They give you energy. They expand 12 times there size if you use them correctly. They contain protein as well as fiber. 1 tbsp equals the protein of 1 egg. They help to regulate cholesterol. The list goes on and on. Something very helpfl to people who buy the seeds is in preparation. I was going through them quickly because I was using them incorrectly. Here is the correct way: For every tbsp you scoop out you add 1/2 to 3/4 cups of water depending on how thick you like it. I usually do 2 tbsp and 1 cup and 1/2 water. Then you leave the seeds in the water for 30 minutes before ever using them. After using them, store them in a container in the refrigerator. They will become like a jelly like pudding. They will last in the fridge for 2 weeks and you can scoop out tbsps and add them to all kinds of foods to get the health benefits. They don't have any taste so they blend into everything. Since the 2tbsp grows 12 x because it absorbs the water, it will last a lot longer and you will be getting a great deal more benefit from them. i am involved in a marathon walk/run training program. I was going on a longer run of 10 miles and needed something in my system that would give me energy but not cause a need for a bathroom trip along the way. I used the chia seeds for fuel in the form of a pudding with a piece of banana and stevia. It worked great. When you buy chia seeds, keep in mind why you are buying them. It is not for the taste. They don't have a taste. IT IS FOR THE AMAZING HEALTH BENEFITS. As far as the Nutiva brand, I am very happy with it. Just remember to order organic chia and stay away from anything made in China.
